I thought this was an interesting read. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. We went there at Christmas and were stunned to find such a gem in a city we always assumed was scruffy.

This kind of individual civic revitalization fascinates me. There's a show on cable TV somewhat similar to this. A man goes back to his hometown in a southern state (Mississippi?) and buys some houses and renovates them as rental properties, one by one. In the last show he was talking to the mayor about buying and renovating the old 5 and Dime store in the downtown area. I didn't see the ending, so if anyone here did, I'd like to hear what happened.

And wasn't it Jon Bon Jovi who renovated an entire block in Philadelphia? I'm sure that sparked other nearby renovation.
