I love this - Captital One has to pay back a bunch of money to card holders who were strong-armed into buying bogus credit protection programs.

This just happened to me with a different company. I opened a store card, and when I activated it I was routed to a person who started reading me paragraphs of scripted copy in an attempt to sign me up for credit insurance in case of loss of employment or death. I was trying to end the conversation, but when I realized she had just stated that she was all ready to sign me up, I freaked out. I told her I didn't want the add-on, but I'm still not sure if she heard me. I think it's possible she signed me up for it anyway. (I should probably close the damn card, why on earth do I need a store card? I'm trying to end my dependence on credit!)

The consumer protection agency that put the screws to Capital One says the settlement is a victory for consumers in general. They're hoping that what happened to this big card-issuer will give other credit companies pause as they pursue their aggressive add-on strategies...

That's beautiful. I am a former employee of Capital One. Without going into detail, I couldn't continue to work there and feel like a decent person so I quit. It's nice to hear when indecent behavior is punished.
