View Full Version : Using Pinterest in a Frugal Productive Manner
Stella got me started on Pinterest. I can see there are amazing amounts of info there. What tips do you have for using it?
I am guessing that if you want to keep up with a specific piece of info that you can create your own board on that topic and use the repinning function.
How do I keep track of what I have looked at? How do I tell when someone has new info?
Is there anyway to organize items on your own boards?
I think of Pinterest as a photographic index to the internet. There are so many source of information, but sometimes to find what you want via a traditional search you have to weed through lots of text. With Pinterest, I simply enter my search and pages of images pop up.
This week, for instance, I located a recipe I wanted for today's brunch (baked eggs in pattypan squash); found easy ways to create a 'hoop house' over my raised garden beds; and, as always, found a few craft and recipe ideas to try.
You'll get the hang of it as you use it. I've been using it for about 2 months, I think. I'm there as Rosemary Evergreen. The basics are:
* you can either 'follow' people's boards or use the index to search for things
* create your own boards as you create pins, to index them. Early on, my mistake was to just have a 'recipe' board - I had to sort those into sweet/savory when I realized that was not the best way to go.
* When you log in, the images that come up are from the people/boards that you 'follow.'

Thanks, Rosemary; that is helpful. I think it just kind of seemed like a jumble of incoherent photos to me, so I didn't really get the structure or a sense of how one might use it.
