View Full Version : Dream Board
Ever heard or done a DREAM BOARD?
You make a board with pictures of what you want to become (or words).
You look at that every morning and it helps you to actually achieve those things.
I did one last night just using words. (I think standard is occupation / house) but mine focused on inner things like "being comfortable in my own skin" and I drew a picture of me with a lot of squiggle lines showing my skin and me embracing it.
And other things.
Anyways, during the day today, it actually did help me focus in times of need thinking about being comfortable when I wasn't and just slowing down and embracing that pure goal image.
I think it can work.
Anyone else ever used a DREAM BOARD?
i think it be dope.
I used a dream board and it really worked! It helped me stay focused, which I have a lot of trouble with, and showed me positive, uplifting images about where I wanted to be and who I wanted to become. Thanks for the reminder...I got rid of it when I had achieved nearly all my goals on it and we moved to Florida, and didn't make another one. Now that we're here and settling in, it's time to make a new one to energetically focus this chapter of life.

I don't think it is really that much different then writing down your goals where you see them everyday. Just a different term.
However, I don't see how dope or any other drugs will help, as they normally are used to cover up or deal with problems.

I think heydude was using the term the same way us old fogies say "cool".
Funny timing heydude, I was cutting out images for my new board yesterday! I think they do work. Visualization is important to me so a picture really is worth 1000 words in my mind. See it, be it. Good luck with yours!!!
I like the idea of focus tools. Zeus knows I could use a little help in that area...
And as far as drugs go--sometimes a high is just a high. Pass the madrona berries. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/laie/Laie_16.gif

I'm the opposite. I find that for me, it's much less productive to sit around and "dream", make lists or boards, or clip images, etc... of the things I want to achieve then it is to just get off my duff and "do". I find that defining and focusing what I want to achieve comes betterand clearer if I am actually involved in doing something - anything - that propels me forward. Of course sitting on my duff dreaming AFTER I achieve something (with a bottle of the bubbly in hand) can be VERY productive
ETA: I don't do journals or anything like that, don't even write down any plans for the future on a scrap of note paper - so maybe dream boards are something that would work best for people who do write journals or blogs or dairies.

Everyone is different. Some need motivation (which is what these can be) while some go out and actively seek it.
I do far too much sitting and thinking, being a brain in a jar and all http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/cherna/Cherna-kunst.gif, but I seem to fall short when it comes to concrete goal setting, which is where the focus board would come in handy. I can see scheduling a weekly review of the board, adjusting images, adding and subtracting, evaluating progress... There's no substitute for action, as Spartana suggests--especially the "ready, fire, aim!" kind.
I bet this would be a terrific addition to the Artist's Way exercise.

Dope & dank both mean cool. Urban dictionary!
For awhile I had an on-line dream board. It was kind of fun to scroll thru other's boards as well. I wonder whatever happened to that. I liked it because it was organized well and easy to pull up images for whatever 'dream' I could type in. The old board on the wall always bugged my organized self because the curling edges of the magazine images I'd clipped would bug me.

I agree. I think a dream board would be a great motivator to visualize anything you want to achieve or change. It seems like a concrete way to "see" what you want to achieve rather than just thinking about it. I know that I might put up a photo I can look at of something I want to do, and it does motivate me (or at least remind me) of my goal. I just meant that, for me, I find it more motivating to keep my plans simple and brief otherwise, if I spend too much time visualizing/dreaming/ preparing, I spend less time doing. But then I have the attention span of a two year old so am easily distracted :-)!
