This is helpful for starting the next set of plantings. I wonder how egg cartons would work for the same use?

I remember using egg cartons in my third grade classroom, so many years ago, to start plant seeds. It worked well as I remember. I loved growing things even way back then. I remember checking them daily and being so excited when I saw a little green popping through. They sat on the shelf by the big window in our classroom. We had a few kids that were so enthused about that "project" - it was obvious who would probably grow up to be gardeners, me being one of them. :)

Do you plant the toilet paper roll with the seedling in it? If so I would think it would inhibit root growth since TP tubes don't decompose so fast?
