When I think of the Palaeolithic era, I usually think of it as a type of extreme simple living. But I recently learned that they had ceramic art:

So 17,500 years ago, people were probably making decisions about whether they had enough ceramic animals or if they needed a few more.;) And did they want one of Grog's horses or one of Ayla's deer?

Should the kids take ceramic lessons from Grog or Ayla or Dag?

Is our daughter Enya mature enough and strong enough to be part of this years expedition to dig and and bring back clay?

Pondering...

I went to some great seminars last year on Paleolithic toolmaking and tool use, and those folks were pretty darned sophisticated. It has revolutionized my approach to wilderness survival - they didn't cart around lots of tools and gear, they carted around the knowledge and skill to quickly make what they needed on-the-spot out of materials at hand.

The human impulse toward art has deep roots.

One of my favorite polymer artists has a take on primitive sculpture:

Jane, I've met Luann a time or two and we both use to be on a few of the same artist forums. Nice lady.
