View Full Version : The cleanliness and freshness of white...

OK, it's no secret that I love white, but how about you? Do pastel-coloured unmentionables make you feel less clean and fresh?

I've loved the colour white since I was a young child, and I'm finding the older I get, the colour white, is becoming more and more appealing.

Maybe it's related to the sign of purity that white projects.

At any rate, would love to hear from you Re:.

Normally, I wear white underpants and bras. I don't like colored underwear as I have to worry about whether or not it will show up through my clothing.

However, last week I bought my new underpants on Ebay through the Jockey store and saved 75% off the regular price. The cost? They all came bright pink. I mean, hot pink. So I washed them and bleached them and now they're a softer salmon colored--but they're a far cry from white. I'll deal. They were only $1.33 per pair.

No not flattering: white is fattening, and glaring bright again any tan.

I buy nude colored underwear so that it doesn't show through my clothes. White can often be seen through sheerer tops. And if a bra strap happens to accidentally show, its not as obvious. White only works for me when its brand new, I feel dirty when the white starts to yellow or gray, and throw the garments out prematurely, which is not frugal.

I too love the color white and always wear white under clothes. I love to wear white tops because I think it brightens my face. I do in my home have either off white walls with whit trim and white ceilings or just all white!

My favorite color though is pink.

In the Hindu religion all matter including our mind and body fall into one of three catagories -- Tamas being very negative, Rajas being self centered and also a vehicle for action to the other two Guna's and Satvick which is the most positive, loving, closest in action and thought to God, And pure. There are many things to categorize in the physical world into one of these three. The color white is considered the most Satvick and they recommend that you wear all white clothing. There is quite a lot to it but white is for above purity and/or beyond the Supreme.

That is why I think you like white, because you are self-sacrificing for love not out of passivity or any other mental weakness and are a purely good hearted person!

I'm with Herbgeek on nude colored underwear. However, when it comes to a certain time of the month, I find that the darker the underwear the better! ;-)

While I talked about loving color in all things including my undies on another thread - there are a few things that I just love in white, but that would not be my clothes, or sheets, or towels. No, I must have color in those. I don't look good in white either. Never, ever wear it.

I LOVE white wedding dresses. I spent this past weekend shopping with my youngest DD for her wedding dress. Beautiful, beautiful white dresses everywhere and the one she decided on is just so exquisite! Of course, a wedding dress doesn't have to be white, but for my taste only a bright white will do. No ivory, or cream, or an antique white - to me those colors looked dirty....

I LOVE white woodwork in a house when paired with certain colors. It looks so pure and makes the color on the walls just pop. This I love.

I LOVE the front of my house - a white stucco with scandanavian sky blue trim. This is a beautiful combo and makes me smile whenever we pull up to our house. It's a very clean look. And I just adore old all white farmhouses. To me it's a very pure and simple look. Nothing is prettier to me at Christmas than seeing an all white house with just a wreath of greenery on the front door and a few twinkling white lights. I think it is so simple and magical looking....

And snow, I LOVE how beautiful white snow is on the ground when it first falls, before it is messed up by people walking through and cars driving through it. Beautiful, beautiful white snow....pristine with not a hint of dirt in it. Love it!

And white picket fences! I so LOVE white picket fences! :)

I wear colored underwear. So what?

And it's funny that I dislike bright white wedding gowns, but it probably depends on the bride's coloring for success as much as anything. Even silk isn't totally white like that polyester satin fabric is. One of my favorite dresses on Say Yes to the Dress was a taupe colored old Hollywood style satin gown that was gorgeous on the bride although she didn't like it. I love ivory lace or chiffon as wedding dress fabric but it has a yellowish tone and not everyone can wear that.

I love white shirts.
Nude colored undies.
My current cabin in the woods has a lot of color - I think I'd like my next house to be white walls/white trim.
Its nice that we don't always have to like the same thing for life.

I like colored underwear. And white clothing isn't cleaner than colored clothing. Clean/dirty is one spectrum, and white/colored is another set of characteristics entirely.
I only use bleach rarely and a jug lasts me a couple of years. Avoiding lots of whites helps me minimize bleach usage.

I do love white, but here's one place I think white does NOT belong: school building walls.

Our school must have had an undersized painting budget. And you know what? Little fingers touch walls! They drag them all along there as they pass down the hallway. It looked like crap, and felt institutional. Even cream or tan would have been better and wouldn't have felt soooooo dirty as white, and also a lot warmer.

Nice hearing from everybody!

Oh, yes, white-painted woodwork (depending on design and style), white-picket fences, and even white homes, definitely do it for me!

It's funny although, having started this thread topic, for I can't help but think my love of white, stems from becoming older and more conservative. Sort of like, white (easy, fresh, clean), colours (busy, fussy, etc).

Also makes me ponder our earlier-years (baby years), where everything surrounding us is white! And maybe (just maybe), we grow to carry that familiarity with us.

I use only white towels and white sheets and white hand towels in kitchen. Seems fresh and clean to me. I really don't like dark colors like browns or navy blue. I can't tell if they are clean. Bugs me.

Me too, Rose! Linens especially, whites/lights...

White sheets and towels remind me of hospitals so I like a little color there. Love white shirts and have too many. Underwear - I don't think I have a single white pair. The only thing white I have that I like beyond reason is my remodeled all white tile bathroom. It always looks clean.

Striking a happy-balance is so important, isn't it, Pinkytoe. It really is so easy to go overboard on either end of the scale.

I was looking at a magazine article and thought of you and this thread Mrs M. I find white dishes to be really striking, particularly the heavy rounded "diner" kinds of dishes. Whenever I see a magazine spread with white dishes, or white candles, it catches my eye.

I love white dishes/white candles too, but like them on a tablecloth with color. I've always loved how white makes a color pop.

Mrs-M, I do think you must be very conservative, because I know I am way older than you, but I really love color in large doses, albeit tastefully done. :D

Me, too, Herbgeek, with crystal stemware to compliment! I also love white Christmas trees (in the right setting).

Wildflower. I'm starting to think I get overwhelmed with too much colour and patterns, possibly because I don't have the artistic vision to incorporate such a display/design. But you are right, when tastefully done, a room bursting with colour does make a regal statement, doesn't it.
