Thought that a lot of posters here probably know about some great helpful websites.
Want to post about some of your favorites?

Right now realtor.com is very helpful. Once I like a house I take the address and google it to find out more information on it, like what the taxes are, and the price the house was last bought for and the year it was last bought.

I also like zabasearch.com and Intullis.com which are search engines to find people. I had some long lost friends and still have one I am working on locating, but I found some using these sites. Unfortunately they used to offer a lot of free information that they are now charging for.

I like the adventure travel kinds of websites like Gorp as well as the housing websites like Realtor, Zillow, Trulia, and Redfin (I'm always looking for the dream hovel...cheap!). I also like Homeaway.com and VRB0.com for vacation house rentals (which I use both long and short term). I use to go to the Lonely Planets website - especially their Thorn Tree forums, but haven't in awhile. I like Coolworks.com too for interesting jobs even though I don't plan to go back to work...ever :-)!!

Wright now it is a local private news website. There is a forest fire burning about 5 miles from us. The local site gives us updates every hour. Big sites and even local news could care less.

Here lately, tripadvisor.com for scoping out travel destinations. For searching air flights, I use www.matrix.itasoftware.com/

I get all the news I need from the weather report, ha ha. NOAA's site is really useful because it'll give forecasts for different altitudes which can make a huge difference when I'm planning a climb.

As far the internet goes, I'm a gypsy, a world-traveler (if you will), so I tend to reap the rewards and riches as I come across them. No real specific sites, just a mishmash of this and that as I find it.

Thanks everyone for posting, I have little by little looking over your posts and have started looking around it's really fun...

I have seen where my favorite magazines have their own websites and you can get some articles to read there, like Mother Earth News. You can also sign up for weekly emails from them with articles in them. I have found this fun and something to look forward to...

This one, various Facebook community groups for my own interests, and for underpants-wetting laughs, www.cakewrecks.com!

I don't know that it is "helpful" per se but I find myself returning quite a bit to two sites: www.earthclinic.com for anecdotal natural cures and www.crunchybetty.com for homemade health and household recipes. I recently tried her suggestion for activated charcoal as a tooth whitener and it really worked.

I love Gardenweb.com, now that I can finally log into it. It wouldn't let me for about 2 months, and boy did I miss it. It has dozens of different forums.......from gardening, birdwatching, butterflies, cooking, food preserving, to electrical, plumbing, ventilation, house repair, health, computers, and on and on. Its great!
