Can you recommend a good book, I would love to have one on hand as a reference if anything comes up, we are right now filling our barn.

I remember a rabbit book being discussed but can't remember the name.

Thanks

Storey's Guide to Raising Rabbits (http://www.amazon.com/Storeys-Guide-Raising-Rabbits-Facilities/dp/1580172601) is a pretty all around guide. There's a section on butchering that might not impress you if you're not raising them for meat, but the rest of the book is helpful for breeders or pet owners. Storeys also has guides for most other species of livestock that get raised on a smaller scale.

Ok, thanks, I saw his books, just wondered if they were good, and yes we do plan to raise them for meat.

Where to begin... :)

My favorite poultry books:
Humane and Healthy Poultry Production: a manual for organic growers, by Karma Gloss.
Free Range Poultry Production & Marketing, by Herman Beck-Chenoweth.
Day Range Poultry: Every Chicken Owner's Guide to Grazing Gardens & Improving Pastures, by Andy Lee.
Pastured Poultry Profits, by Joel Salatin.
Chicken Tractor: The Permaculture Guide to Happy Hens and Healthy Soil, by Andy Lee.

There are several others I like, but they may a bit over the top for your purposes. You might want to look at the ones on breeds, what they are best for, what kind and how many eggs they lay, etc.

All of the Storey guides are good, except the one for meat goats, which focuses on breeding and showing, rather than what MEAT goats are actually for. :)

I'll come back if I think of more.

Also, if you plan on doing birds for meat, the Salatin title and the first Lee book have very good sections on butchering. Salatin is the master at bringing up meat birds.
