View Full Version : 2 neat things today
DH found a Giant Swallowtail Caterpillar in the yard. I put it on a tree I thought it would like to eat the leaves of. It was so cool looking.
Then.......he found a bright red cluster of seeds on a stalk on the edge of the woods. I looked it up and its the seeds of a Jack-in-the-pulpit plant! What's amazing is I planted one there that I bought at a nursery 25-30 years ago, and I thought it had died the very next year. I've never seen it again...........and now these beautiful red seeds! Amazing!
Two neat things for today.
I attended my first ever bridal tea hosted by the mother of the groom where her friends dress up and meet the bride-to-be. I met some really neat people, some of whom I had heard about and the bride-to-be is a charmer.
I wore my pearls given to me 50 years ago and my gold charm bracelet that I have not worn in about 3+ decades and was told that "I clean up very nicely" by the friends that meet me at the trails to walk twice weekly. The full length sun dress, I wore, is truly beautiful in bright raspberry pink and it swirls. I tried to take a picture or rather get DH to take one to share but the camera battery was dead. Ughh! Next time I wear it, I will take a picture and share.

Very neat, Cathy! I've tried to grow Jack in the Pulpit without success as well, so I can appreciate your excitement!
Two neat things for today:
I found a monarch butterfly caterpillar looking for a place to attach and build its chrysalis. It will be fun to watch.
I discovered a new author, David Suzuki. I have just started The Sacred Balance and I am in love.
Oh, Florence, I love David Suzuki!
Two neat things for today:
I was able to eat the first cloves of garlic from the heads I planted last September and harvested early this month. Luscious and hot.
A hummingbird came and was drinking the nectar from the flowers of a plant I was transplanting - while it was still in my hands. Must've been one yummy flower to risk that!
(Love this thread, CathyA)
Okay..........I have to amend my cool things......
The caterpillar ended up being a Tiger Swallowtail (which is still a good thing!), and I found out that they turn brown (from green) when they are about to pupate. I mis-identified it, 'cause of the brown.
And I'm sorry to say my go-to-nature friend told me that it was probably a green dragon plant with the bright red berries and not a Jack-in-the-Pulpit. But I think the green dragon is cool too!
Florence.......In spite of living on 35 acres of land, I have only seen one monarch chrysalis. I missed the actual coming out party......but it was still neat to keep an eye on. The green chrysalis looked like it had little gold dots on it.
Pug....yum on the garlic! And how cool to have the hummer right in front of you! I was sitting on my deck once, in a very neon pink shirt. A hummer flew up right in front of me and looked like "HEY! You're NOT a flower!" and zoomed off. hahaha
