View Full Version : Anyone here in the path of Isaac?
I think alot of people were fooled by Isaac only being a Cat 1. I can't believe its slowness. It was moving 4-6 MPH. Some have said their destruction is worse than with Katrina. Supposedly its moving slowly up the US and then will turn east in the Midwest. All this rain after a drought.......and just when farmers were going to try to harvest their poor crops.
I just hope everyone here is safe and hasn't lost anything.
The inland path of this storm is not something we should take lightly.
My wife and I were in New Orleans in our motorhome during the first week of September, 2008 when we were forced to evacuate due to Hurricane Ike. I remember heading inland at about 3am, driving to Natchez MS before stopping to sleep a bit and then beginning a leisurely trip up the Natchez Trace to Nashville, then a direct route on to Cincinnati, arriving on the 11th or 12th.
All that while, Ike was following us, slowly but surely arriving at our house on Sunday the 14th, 850 miles after it chased us out of NO. He arrived with 80+ mph winds felling 70ft trees in my yard and leaving much of my area without power for a week or so.
Oh gee Alan........now I'm scared! DS is driving home from southern Indiana on Sunday. Maybe he should change his plans. We'll just have to wait 'til it gets closer.
Nature is so powerful....
For quite a while it seemed like the weather people were just building alot of things up when they shouldn't have. But recently, they've been pretty accurate. Here in central IN, they're saying we could get strong storms and 4-6" of rain. I hope they're wrong this time.
We are one of the few that would actually appreciate a glancing blow from this storm. It looks like we are too far west to receive any rain, but there are a few models that have some of the outer rain bands reaching us. Overall it doesn't look promising, our chance of rain over the weekend has dropped to 10%. The crops around here are basically a loss. Rain won't do any more for the fields than make them muddy, but anything we can get to replenish aquifers and streams and give all the trees a drink would be helpful.
So sorry for everyone along the Gulf coast that is suffering. Of all the natural disasters that can impact your life I'm convinced that flooding is the worst. Fire, earthquake, tornadoes, etc. can take everything, but at least they only last a very short time. Flooding can go on forever and the clean up is so difficult. Stay safe everyone!
Yesterday afternoon the winds picked up. Had a beautiful sunset.
Didn't start raining till sometime in the night and it's been a nice soaking rain since. Winds died down to almost nothing once it got here. I sure appreciate the rain Isaac has brought us.
Oh me too! It's raining now and has been since about 8 this morning. It's supposed to go on throughout the night. Yea! I wouldn't wish a hurricane on anyone (went through one pregnant!) but if it has to hit, I'm so thankful for the much needed rain!
