View Full Version : bumping my head, how long should this hurt?
I am a klutz, i walked into a door on the weekend. Okay it was swinging open and I bumped on the side but still I should look where I am going.
That was Saturday and my head still hurts when I touch it plus a low grade headache since then. I need new glasses and am trying to cut down caffeine, still i am not prone to headaches.
I was going to give it another day or so and then think about seeing the DR.
Sounds like a concussion. But I am no neurologist and it could be worse.
I would go to the doctor pronto. Brain injuries can kill pretty quickly and you'd have no way of knowing if it was serious.
I wouldn't play around with a brain injury.
Have you put ice on it?
Any problems with your vision? nausea? dizziness? If not, I would just wait and see...........unless there are any more severe symptoms.

I would go to the Dr. Right away, head injuries are more serious than some other things, like if it was your arm or legI would say wait. For your head I say go...
I'm not sure what I was doing...dreaming touring an old barn....but I got twisted around in our bed and fell out....right on my head on hardwood floor. Huge bump and swelling, a little sick to my stomach. I ended up with a migraine. Probably should of been checked out but they most likely would of said it was a mild concussion and to treat with ice and ibuprofen. 2 weeks later I still have a bit of bump. Maybe I should of mentioned it when I was in the ER after the car wreck but the rush from the accident made the migraine go away.
Zoe Girl.......you're headache could be more related to cutting back on caffeine. Not trying to talk you out of going to the doctors.....just trying to use my own personal experience as a guide.
Okay thank you all, I read up on concussions and briefly talked to the school nurse. I am not going to the DR unless something else develops, I have no blurred vision, dizziness, anxiety or other disturbing symptoms, and I seem quite on top of things at work. Some Aleve today helped the head but it still aches and it aches where I bonked it. I am paying attention to rest, hey today I only worked 8 hours!! (the beginning of a school year is loads of work, the best I can do is not let overtime become a regular thing).
I think overall this is a great excuse, I mean reason, that I didn't get the house very clean by the end of the weekend,

If you didn't lose consciousness and are generally feeling pretty well, I wouldn't worry much about it. The brain has great protection in that skull. If you are feeling nauseous, vomiting or develop blurred vision or if those around you notice that you are difficult to wake up or not oriented to time and place, you will need professional help right away. The end of the first 24 hours are prime for post-concussive syndrome, and you are past that. The scalp has a good number of nerve endings, so those bumps and bruises can really hurt. If you are also stopping caffeine, then that is likely a source of your headache.Stopping caffeine will cause a headache, even if you are not generally prone to headache.
My husband tripped and fell against a doorjam hard right against his forehead. Bled all over the house before I could get home. I got him to the emergency room for stitches and the doctors were only concerned if he had lost consciousness. In fact, five different people asked him that question at the hospital. He had not and they did nothing other than stitch him up.
I would not worry about it and just take an OTC painkiller.
Ahhh, the first day without a headache! I am glad I didn't need the DR, it is not my favorite thing to do.
