I have just over 2 cups of milk left and it is going sour. What would you do with it?

Cornbread! Biscuits would be a close second.

I would also use it in buttermilk biscuits. I keep the dough in the fridge and bake a couple at a time in the toaster oven.

Often if you heat it to boiling, the sour taste will go away and you can use it as regular milk or in pudding. Otherwise I'd use it in baking.

Pancakes. Yum.

Dogged if one doesn't learn something new everyday on here. I love this forum.

Even with considering myself one of the world's thriftiest (first world edition) cooks, it never occurred me to find a use for my old milk. I drink the stuff daily, but occasionally it does get "untasty" from either fridge leftover-odors or sheer age, and I've always just thrown it out. And many weeks I actually am MAKING either biscuits, or cornbread, or pancakes. Jeesh - what a waste.

I feel somewhat stupid: there are times when I have spent the extra money to buy buttermilk to make the biscuits or pancakes extra good - and was probably at the same times throwing out old milk that would have served the same purpose wonderfully.

Thank you Azure and everyone else for the little discussion.....

In Austria, people drink cartons of buttermilk at the pool. It's really popular there.

I love buttermilk, watched someone making butter and how they got the buttermilk from the process and how it was so delicious. Don't think the buttermilk in the stores are made that way...

Do love buttermilk, especially in a raspberry smoothie!
