View Full Version : Catching ringworm from a cat..............
Poor DD. She finally moved out of the apartment with the bedbugs and did an excellent job of not bringing them along. She worked so hard to not bring any hitchhikers to her new place.
Well, she visited an old friend a couple weeks ago who had a cat with ringworm. Well, it appears that she has it now! UNFAIR!!
She still has to go to the dermatologist, but we're pretty sure its ringworm. And she has a cat too, so she'll probably have to treat the cat. Poor DD.........just when she thinks she's getting in a better financial situation, s**t happens.
I guess I never knew you could get this from an animal.........but there's no reason why you couldn't..............and she did. :(
Poor babies, both of them. Lots of zoonotic diseases, ringworm is one that creeps me out. Oh, with everything else she might want to have her cat checked for worms, too.
Isn't ringworm a fungal disease? If so, seems like it might not be contagious per se but opportunistic. We had a whole litter of puppies once and one showed up with ringworm. The rest never showed any signs.

Yes, ringworm is fungal. Yuck, CathyA!! Sorry for DD!!
Can't she just use an OTC anti-fungal? Should clear it right up. Zinc oxide might work, as well.
I always used an over the counter and it cleared right up. So hard to keep from itching it.
My youngest son picked it up one time from a friend's pet rat. He got it around his eye. I took him to the Dr and said "it's ring worm", he said "no, it isn't" and prescribed something with a steriod in it that made it grow even worse. I was afraid he'd end up losing his eyesight.
That was the last straw with that Dr, got the over the counter stuff and cleared it right up.
kids get it at school. A school aide diagnosed it on me and the cat once. Easy to get rid of.
Hmmm.....I guess I thought it needed something prescription-strength........but maybe that's when its really bad. She's mostly bothered by the itching. She's been using an OTC anti-fungal since yesterday. She just thought it was a bug bite for awhile and probably got a little behind in its treatment.
Actually, I guess I also have an ulterior motive for getting her to go to a dermatologist.....She has alot of moles and a few strange white spots and I want them checked out. She had them checked out several years ago, and the lady doc said not to worry. But then DS got scabies and went to her and she said it wasn't anything.......not to worry about it. So my faith in her with DD went down. So.........hopefully she'll get both problems looked at at the same time. But it is good to know that she might be able to treat the ringworm herself.
Gee..........CathyA's kids have had bedbugs, scabies, ringworm..........she must be a really yukky person! :~)
Yeah, ringworm can be cured over the counter. The creams for jock itch also are for ringworm, mostly. Just look at the label. No big deal really.
Gee....CathyA's kids sound pretty much like everyone else's kids! :) My son had bedbugs at college. They were quite the buggers to get rid of, but he did, finally!
LOL......thanks Peggy. How did your son get rid of the bed bugs? DD washed everything and put all her clothes into new, sealed Rubbermaid tubs. For a long time, she washed her bed linens every day.
Then I bought her a special steamer and she steamed the heck out of everything. Even though she had bought expensive anti-bedbug covers for her box spring, mattress, and pillows, she put her bed out for trash pick-up and marked in big letters "BEDBUGS" on it. I've read of people picking up mattresses on the curb and finding tons of bedbugs after they got it home. EEEewwwwwwwwww.
I would take ringworm over bedbugs any day! hahaha
