Next Tues I get more x-rays and then hopefully a cast on Thursday.
Cooler weather is coming and I'm wondering what I can wear with a ankle/leg cast.
I remember there was talk awile back about yoga pants and travel pants, etc...
Can you find some that are not too expensive?
I usually wear jeans from Oct-April and I don't think the jeans are going to fit over the cast.
I have a few skirts but I'm thinking pants would be more comfortable.

Have some old pairs of yoga pants and the way these are cut they would fit just right over your cast. Did get them at BJ wholesale club many, many years ago. Don't know where you could find them now at a good price.

By the way how is your ankle and foot doing? We're you able to keep your foot up and did the swelling and irritation go away? Hope so, hope it is feeling much better now...

I'll go get new x-rays on Tuesday and back to the Ortho on Thursday. Hopefully I haven't moved the bones in the wrong direction and we can still go with just a cast. I'm being a good girl at staying in bed with my ankle above heart level and taking a zyrtec every morning to keep the itching at bay so I think the skin will be in good condition.

Ended up getting one new car yesterday, went with a Honda Escape instead of the CR-V I was so set on. Still looking for a replacement truck. It is nice having a neighbor who works for the dealership, he drove the Escape home last night so I coud look at it and give approval then he picked up my husband this morning to take him up there to write the check and sign the papers. I still won't get to drive for probably 3 months but at least I can look at it.

Bet you'll be glad when Thursday is here and you can get it all done and over with...that is great that you were able to keep your leg up this whole time, you sound like a very active person so it may have been an extra effort for you.

I love the Honda -CRV. I guess you had your reasons for going with the Escape instead. Awfully nice to have a neighbor who can do door-to-door service for you! LOL what color car did you decide to go with?

Never heard of a HONDA Escape, although Ford makes one.
I know the boss has spent the last few weeks in some sort of cast pants. They remind me of parachute pants from the 80's, except the legs seal up, after your in them (velcro). I would think something loose, like BDU's might work and fit over the cast. (did your husband serve?, still have any?)
Otherwise, I think you may be looking at spending some money, to at the very least, adapt some temporary use pants, so you don't mess up the good ones.

Maybe you could take some of your jeans that you wouldn't mind making into shorts next year, and leave the one leg without the cast long and the one with the cast cut it to the knee and hem it. Then next year you can cut both legs to the length you want for shorts?

Sorry to read about your accident.
I just picked out the outer leg seam,[ the inner legg is the flat felled one and is too difficult to clip and then resew,] on my jeans, bit by bit, until I could fit my leg and cast through.
Depending on how high and wide the cast is you may only need to open it up from about mid calf or to the knee. I restitched them when the cast came off. Older, softer jeans are more comfortable to wear this way. I rolled or folded the open part up so that it wouldn't flap about and pinned it in place. Not elegant but effective..and warmer than shorts!
I hope you heal quickly and completely!

Along similar lines, I was thinking that you might be able to find some jeans or pants at the thrift store and cut the seam on the leg with the cast. If you are careful, you might be able to sew them up again when the cast is gone. Or you could just make shorts or recycle the pants into rags and dusters.

There are a lot of warm-up pants and other athletic type pants that have zippers or snaps or velcro on the legs, to make them easy to get on and off over sports equipment.

Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well at the doctor's!

It is a Ford Escape. It was susposed to say Ford Escape instead of the Honda CR-V. Sometimes this laptop jumps back when I'm tying - very annoying.
We needed to make sure and spend our money set aside for a car before I find out if I need surgery. I'd rather make payments to the hospital instead of payments on a car loan.
We have two dealerships here Ford and Chevy. To get the Honda I would need to go about an hour away.
The Escape has plenty of room for what I need and I think it'll do me fine for a few years until I get the boys off to college.
Its almost new and it bright red with black leather interior. The boys spent a couple hours in it yesterday programing the stero system that is voice activated. Guess we're moving up. All I wanted was to be able to put a CD in.

Good idea on altering some thrift shop clothing but I think I'm limited to looking on-line right now. I think I'll look for the athletic zipper/snap types pants - completey forgot those exsist.
It has been hard for me to be down for so long...I want to be outside, in the garden, playing with the chickens, hiking, kayaking, etc....

My idea echoes that of what Miss Cellane, suggested. Tear-away track pants. Comfortable, roomy, easy on/off.

I started to say, can't you send your husband with your size, but tear off, easy off pants, well that may give him too many idea's.:laff:
