Hi all. I am typing this out from my room in Calexico, California, where I am for the night (on the other side of Mexicali) as I have had another stone attack and am crossing the border early in the AM to have an ultrasound done at one of the border hospitals. So why is this in family you ask? OK....on the way down here while I was on the Greyhound bus I got a call from the owner of the care home in which the friend of my family that I caretake for stays......apparently he really had a dramatic decline in his condition take place in the past 24 hours. I have been on the phone dealing with his family - the good, the bad, the ugly - and also my mother who is power of attorney over his health care and who I had to really really really cajole to get into a cab to get to the hospital to sign paperwork so emergency brain surgery surgery could be done - not that she doensn't want them to do the surgery, she's just afraid to go and sign.....I have been just on the phone non stop for a goodly two and half plus hours until there has been a let up here now. I return to Phoenix on Thursday and I have the feeling it is going to be funky as there are family members driving out from Omaha and the man does have sizeable assets. Here's hoping that this does not get too unpleasant.....We shall see. Rob

An update. Unfortunately this man's brains have passed and my mother was told by the neurosurgeon at the hospital that his body would be shutting down within 12 hours. A massive stroke with a great deal of brain bleeding apparently. My mother has passed on my phone number to all who are calling and I (wisely I think) have left a voice message to the effect that I will be unavailable for the remainder of the evening to grieve Mr. Kuo. Just not up to dealing with the relatives right now I'm afraid. I will get up early, get my ultrasound done, cross the border, pack, have lunch and THEN make myself avaiable. Good news here is that hospice is taking over and moving his body to a hospice setting, which I am really grateful for, so that he can pass on in serene surroundings. Rob

Rob, here's a big healing hug for you. It must be hard enough to deal with your own health crisis and it is wonderful that you have helped this gentleman as much as you could through his difficult time. Good karma is definitely coming your way. I will say a prayer for you and keep you in my thoughts through the coming days.

Kudos to you Rob for keeping it together. You're right to focus on your own health first, then take care of the rest as you can.
Best wishes with everything.

Would that all of us be fortunate to have someone like you in our lives when needed. Blessings for all of you.

Take care of yourself now, Mr. K is in a safe place and you can't do anything for him.

Sorry you are having stone issues again, I understand those are very painful, and then to add to it the man's family stress. Take care of yourself so you can take care of the others upon your return.
