Many of you may already know this, but if you wear a woman's size 7 shoe, you can wear a girl's size 5 1/2. They're a bit wider and much cheaper.

One of my coworkers buys Tom's shoes online and told me she buys the girls shoes. I thought she might just have extremely tiny feet, but I tried one on and it fit me perfectly, much more comfortably with the wide width.

Hi pony mom, that is great to know... My shoe size is too large for that, but at least it gives you more selection when you are looking to buy shoes!:)

And with the size inflation of clothing, girls' clothes now fit up to about a women's size 12, too. Sometimes useful for saving money on basics.

I've sometimes bought LLBean kids large size, because they don't make much for petites. The kid size had a shorter arm, so that worked for me. Plus the same item was $15 less than the same item as a women's size small.

I also wear a woman’s size 7 and have bought youth 5.5/6 since high school (a long time). I wanted a pair of farm boots that I could only find for boys/men so that’s what I bought. I often find the same youth size shoe/boot for a way lower price.

I have small feet, (women's size 5 or 5.5), and discovered that in tennis shoes especially I could wear the children's and save a lot of money. A pair of New Balance in kids was quite a bit less than in adults! And, herbgeek, like you I have found too that sometimes a large size in children's fits us petites well. I like a good soft flannel shirt in the cool weather, and I have had a boy's L or XL that fit just fine through the shoulders and arms without the longer sleeves and shoulder seams half way to my elbow!

Also check out socks in the boys or girls department; same size as women's socks but cheaper.

To add to Kathy's comment about socks: I like navy blue knee highs to wear with jeans when the weather turns cooler. Its almost impossible to find women's navy socks, there is usually only grey, black and maybe camel. If there are navy socks, they are usually ankle high ones. So I buy them in the girls department.
