Another good reason to breastfeed exclusively if you can.

I wasn't able to breastfeed one of mine 100 percent because of illness and too low milk production - I worried hourly about what was in the formula I was giving her to supplement...

She is fine, for the most part, 32 years later. ;)

The processed/bought food we are eating is killing us, literally.

I second the idea of mothers going back to breastfeeding (more).

One thing we (consumers) need to start doing, is pushing back. Society has become far too giving and accepting of substandard goods... food, being at the top.

One thing I've been doing (for a long time now) is reading labels (carefully) and selecting only products with the least amount of unnecessary ingredients in them.

She is fine, for the most part, 32 years later.A very happy ending, yet one that might not be so easily matched (today) with all the new stuff and things being added to food. We mustn't forget, things were much different thirty-two years ago.

The part of all this that amazes me the most is, one would think that as we progress and become more aware of and more educated of the dangers and negative associations with such ingredients, i.e., artificial sweeteners, genetically modified this and that, etc, one would think we would veer-away from adding such things to the food we eat, yet as time goes on the level of garbage/poisonous ingredients being added to our food is growing.

I'm still of the old-school variety where I like to believe that natural is better. Another interesting correlation between artificial/chemical ingredients, is hardly ever do I hear of anyone getting appendicitis anymore, unlike the 60's/70's, when cases of appendicitis (and removal) was almost an epidemic.

The increase in age is probably also due in large part to the medical care we get and those 10 pills a day I take for various things. I read recently that live slan may be starting to decrease.

I wonder too about the statistics of life span, for instance my Grandmother spent 7 years of the end of her life miserably from Alzheimer's disease. They are only counting when people actually die but the years that are called extended may just be years of extended various illnesses with a lot of help to keep people alive during that time period. In the past people probably just didn't live as long with their illnesses.

Child mortality used to be a lot higher, if you talk to anyone over a certain age (dying off now) they all had siblings that died in childhood. But yea the childhood mortality rate was a lot higher.

Well I don't know if products in Canada have reached the nuttiness they have down here, but I pretty much don't buy products with ingredients I wouldn't have in my kitchen period and the ingredients in my kitchen do not read like a chemistry lab - none of that "modernist cuisine"!

That only works, though, if you can see what the ingredients actually are in the products you are buying.
