Happy Thanksgiving! How do you typically eat and celebrate? What are your traditions?

Hope you are enjoying your day!

Awww... thank you so much, Pilgrim, I mean, Tussie! :)

Celebrate? We sure do! Turkey dinner! Yum-yum!!!

Traditions vary, depending on how we as a family plan around the holiday. Sometimes we all get together (as a whole) and celebrate, but most often it's just us, and really, the older I get (we all get), the less stressful and hectic holidays like this are.

Simple and low-key is my mantra. Too many people, and suddenly, the holiday isn't relaxing anymore, and instead of having an enjoyable quiet time amongst ourselves, things turn busy, and before long, Thanksgiving dinner ends up being a chore, a duty.

When I was a kid we lived in Canada for a few years andf would celebrate both the Canadian Thanksgiving as well as the US one. We had enough turkey left over to feed us for months!

One thing we do is enjoy our own Canadian, Thanksgiving, then when the US, Thanksgiving comes about, we tune into the television and watch, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving!

Says a lot about the old classics, doesn't it, never tiring of them no matter how many we watch them! So I guess (in a way), we, too, enjoy the best of both worlds, or should I say, the best of both Thanksgivings!

My daughter does not live with her father so a few years back to avoid confrontation we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving the day after Thanksgiving and let my daughter spend Thanksgiving with her father and his family. We enjoyed it so much that we've been doing it this way for...I think 4 or 5 years now. I just got really tired and heart broken watching her little face get so sad when she had to leave one of us to celebrate with the other. Not fair. So I just decided we would change the calendar for her. It's just me, DH the girls and my mom. I don't have any other family that is really close...so no one minds :) So my DD gets to have the best of both worlds as well!

decemberlov, what a loving and generous thing to do. You have taught your daughter a valuable lesson in coming up with solutions to what appear to be insolvable problems. I am sure that this will be one of her "favorite" family memories in future years. I mean how many lucky kids get to have two great Thanksgivings a year.

Decemberlov--good idea. It's an arbitrarily chosen day anyway, right? And such a sacrifice missing Black Friday! Or was that the point?

December, what a nice thing to do to help your daughter feel better. Very admirable.

Thank you Sweetana. Now if only we could change Christmas but unfortunately that one is not so easy :~)

haha yes, we're not Black Friday people at all. Too much craziness for me!

My best friend had the same problems with exs and inlaws, etc. She did just create a different day in December and made it so fun that everyone wanted to come and all looked forward to it. How about special meal, special or traditional movie, special decorating, etc. The key is fun. Making cookies or candy would be a fun activity or making ornaments.
