I was in a horrible and sick mood yesterday  I avoided posting because I knew I would just gripe. I figured out the cost of taking the train to Iowa for Thanksgiving was prohibitive. i wanted to go with my oldest daughter (the one who gave up her baby for adoption, she got an update and he is doing great btw) So it was a major bummer to quote the 80's

This morning my mom said she would cover my daughter if I could pay my way. I am going to stretch it and just do it. We take the train overnight and are there early wednesday or thursday. It is expensive but it is important to do this. My grandma is selling her house and moving to an apartment in a senior building. SHe is 90 this year so living on her own is just getting lonely and a little hard. She is still mentally doing 100% but her knees are bad.

Since I got money from ex caught up I can pull it off, just a lot of home cooking ya know.

What a wonderful post! I am really glad that your Mom offered to pay for your daughter's fare. The older I get the more I realize that there are times in life when you take a pass on something and think that you'll do it "the next time"... and then as time goes by you find that you never get "a next time"! Enjoy your family and especially that home cooking.

Good news, Zoe! To quote another denizen of the '80s, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." I hope it's a good trip.

Glad to hear you'll get a chance to do this, Zoe! Must be a good year...I'm going to see my 90 yo grandma in November too.:)

We also have family spread out around the country, and have made it a financial and time priority to visit them. I don't regret any of this. Hope you have a great visit!
