View Full Version : Weight Loss Through Working Hard?

I guess I am feeling fairly chatty this morning ~ yesterday I went to the doctor to get a small lump I found in my breast (size of a BB) checked out and found out I have lost 18 lbs. since last February when I was there for my annual mammogram. I have been losing weight since I started my new job in June because running around the deli is a heck of a lot more active than sitting around selling guitars. I didn't realize it was 18 lbs. though! My BMI (at 23) is great, puts me in the slightly below normal for my height.

It's just a little bit strange though, as I thought I had only lost about 13 lbs since I switched jobs. I even ate gelato and ice cream all summer, and I snack a lot on samples of our deli food at work. I guess all my increased activity is allowing me to burn it all off.

Oh, and the tiny lump is going to be watched for the next month (they didn't seem too worried about it, as I have very fibrous breast tissue) but it might mean I will need another mammogram and ultra-sound next month to make sure nothing serious is going on. I have decided not to worry too much and just get on with things and make sure I go to the follow up.

Absolutely. My husband is a hard-worker, both at work and around the home, and he's built like a Biblical Emperor. Kicking-up ones metabolism by always being on the go is a healthy thing IMO.

Re: your doctors visit, will keep my fingers-crossed for nothing but positive news.

I've worked at a surprising number of manual labor jobs, and none of them resulted in weight loss. My body is stubborn that way.

Are you built like me, Jane, wider hips, bigger bottom, heavier thighs, trim waist? My problem (not that it's a problem), aside from sporting a pear-shaped figure, is being big-boned, so automatically that curtails how much I will weigh- no matter what I do...

I'm built like an Eastern European peasant woman. Funny, me being Scandinavian and all... http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/grin.gif

I think probably because you're eating all those samples at work, you don't realize that you're eating less food (as an automatic compensation) during the remainder of your day. I don't think you probably would have lost that much without cutting your diet somewhat, although you may not be aware of it.

BIG, BIG smile, Jane! That's a WAY better picture than what I found. You're buxom.

You and I, need not complicate the matter for ourselves, we just have to go through life being happy and content with what we got/have, and forget about the weight thing. :)

My most physical weight-loss/keep in shape job was when I was a cave guide walking 7 miles of stairs a day. But that was also the hardest physically and I still have knee problems from it. I also lost weight working extra evening shifts as an usher at one of the music shows 6 nights a week - did that to save up money for all the appliances for our new house that was being built.
