Check out this woman's garden in Washington state:

In addition to gardening, and spending VERY little on groceries, she's into bartering and "reclaiming" wasted food.

You're welcome! Check out her videos where she dresses in a pilgrim costume and gives away produce on the street :-)

That is a neat site to explore. I admire her enthusiasm and it is a very attractive site. Couponing must be more lucrative in the US.

I have asked at our favourite store about the scraps and was told that they have contracts with several large scale farmers to take all their scraps at the end of each day.

This store does have 50% mark-down sections which I explore regularly and have found some good deals. But, by and large, unless we want highly processed food, there are very few coupons in Canada that are worth keeping. The local paper highlighted with story and a photo a group of ladies who saved a lot money with coupons and donated those purchased items to local charities. Wonderful goal and effort but when DH, friends and I looked at the stuff that they had bought which was spread out over a large table, toothpaste was the only thing that comes into our house and it was not the kind that we use.

Do you find that couponing works for you?

Hi Razz,
Couponing isn't for me either. We stay away from processed food, avoid individually packaged items, and have very little storage space for stockpiling. I tried it a couple of years ago and found it too time-consuming, though I have friends who are very successful at it. I now go to Costco once a month, the farmer's market once a week for produce, and supplement with small trips to the grocery store. My husband also volunteers weekly at a community garden and we get some local produce in return.
