View Full Version : Bidet
Anyone use a bidet? Are they cool?
My husband LOVES the bidet feature on our Japanese toilet. Says it gets him cleaner than just TP after going #2.
We had one for years and DW loved it. No room in the new house for an extra fixture, but I promised a set up like Dhiana has.
Weren't bidets invented for cultures where people didn't bathe everyday and so needed some way to get really clean in the area of the body that quickly gets pretty bad?
Is it really necessary any longer and doesn't it take a whole lot of room up in the bathroom?
When I was in Italy (I think that's where it was) I had a bidet in a bathroom several times. Used it once just to see what it was like. I found it awkward.
i am looking at quick attachments that just latch on to your toilet. does it take a long time? does stuff get "itchy" or weird or anything? do you have to dry with a towel?
I think that bidets are indeed very cool, and I wish I had one again. If I were to be able to gut my landlord's bathroom and redesign the whole thing right now, I'd definitely put one in. Without going into too much detail, women experience at least two other bodily "events" that occur "down there" that do require some more extensive cleanup than just toilet paper! Taking a shower or a bath is not always practical in these cases.

I would like to have one. Very practical for women, as Selah stated above. I also think they would be wonderfully handy for young children, the physically disabled, and the elderly. Don't know why they have never really caught on here in the USA. I have seen a couple in model homes, but otherwise have never seen one in anyone's home.
Our house had one of those fancy Japanese toilets with all kinds of feature (including spray washer and seat warmer) when we moved into it. DH loves it, I'm not so keen -- it always seemed to zap me when I wasn't expecting it! It blew a fuse awhile back and DH hasn't bothered to get it fixed. I'm not going to nag him about it. But I think the kind that are incorporated within the toilet seat are more practical than the European style separate units.
If you want to try one of these out you can always fly to Japan -- they have them in the public toilets at Narita.

If a new home was on the horizon, absolutely, I would definitely go the extra mile to put in a bidet (without a doubt).
To anyone sold on toilet paper (alone), clean-up as best you can (using toilet paper), then when you are done, positively sure you are done (cleaning), wet-down a washcloth, wring it out, and finish the job right! Plain toilet paper is a joke!
Toilet paper, aside from handling the basics, is useless IMO. That's why moms don't clean their babies bottoms with toilet paper, because the poor kid would have permanent ongoing diaper rash and skin woes.

My parents have one in their ensuite of their 1970s Italian built home. As kids we didn't know what it was for. We'd wait until our very fluffy cat was napping in there and then turn on the spray and watch her jump 8 feet

I once used one in an unconventional way. When in London a few years ago, my feet were so sore and tired from walking day after day, all day, every day. So I used it as a foot soaker. Cold water, very refreshing.
how do you use it without getting water everywhere?
hunch down close to the toilet?
*update: i purchased a luxe bidet from amazon for 40 bucks*
My ex-flatmates in Spain used to use our bidet to wash their bras in! Ha!

Hmmm, maybe we should get one at our house. Too bad I didn't think of it before we remodeled the bathroom! :)
Have never used one, but I am an addict of those flushable wipes, which is undoubtedly TMI for most of you, but hey. We're puttin' it out there. LOVE them.

I think I know what the 2nd bodily function is..well..maybe not...hmm...the only thing I can think of is a bidet is nice for a woman after having 'relations' with her S.O. to clean out the 'fluids'
The ONLY reason I am typing this is I seem to recall late night bidet usage I sometimes heard from my parents bedroom-why else would my mom get up so late to use the bidet? Oh God, now I'm imagining my parents DTD-eek..get me out of here!!:|(:0!:moon:
fidgiegirl,
it is just a $40 attachment that goes on your toilet. it sits under your toilet seat in the back. a small sprayer. it is very very very small. it sprays up at you. very easy to put in.

Ding Ding Ding Ding - you are correct! At least, I think you are correct. Sexual relations and that time of the month - I think a bidet would be so useful! My the things we talk about here! :|(>8)

The only issue for me is keeping the bidet clean enough. I'd have to clean it even time before using it. The idea of it kind of grosses me out! :0!
