I don't know about fasting for that purpose, but I do have some resources on "IF" (intermittent fasting) which both DH and I practice. It's mostly to get lean and gain muscle at the same time. It is a health/diet protocol, but I don't know if it "eliminates toxins." Really, the best way to do that is to live and eat as cleanly as possible (remove as many toxins from your life as possible). We do a decent job.

there's leangains.com and another one that my husband likes that I can't remember.

The "eliminate toxins" idea is pretty silly IMHO. That said, fasting doesn't hurt the average American and may provide a physiological high.

The classic fast for "removing toxins" is The Master Cleanse program and any number of websites feature it. Lemon juice and water and some sort of syrup, I believe. I have multiple friends who periodically do that.

In his case, removing toxins is valid in that he had a house with lead paint that he re-painted. I also believe that we are bombarded with chemicals and toxins daily. Sure we can eat well etc..... but, at times, we need help ridding our bodies of toxins.

This post was not to be whether or not you believe in fasting!!! Please respond if you have book to recommend. I would love to send him one for his birthday.

Thanks.

I don't have a book, but I do think you should look into Modified Citrus Pectin- it is widely used to remove heavy metals from the body.

Be careful with the whole toxins stuff. This next is unrelated to fasting, but might still be useful. I used to manage an herb and alternative health and spiritual practices shop. We would often have someone come in looking for a quick fix to eliminate toxins from their bodies. If there was even one of those prospective :) customers who was not looking for a last-minute way to pass a drug test, I would be surprised.

Even better were the guys who would request information and herbs that they recently heard of as being some new high, because they thought it was important to know about such things and experience them so that they could protect their children.

When I started there I had no idea about any of this. It was an interesting experience and I had to become educated about all of that stuff. A big part of that research was on-line and it was eye-opening, to say the least. I also consulted with my doctor, who did some research of her own. Most of what we found was pretty harmless, although some of it looked like it might be physically painful, elimination wise. A small percentage seemed to be harmful in lots of way. I wish I could remember any of the details, but it has been more than twenty-five years since we had that shop.

So, Just be careful, yes?

However, I would completely trust anything that anyone from here shared with you.

Yes, there are toxins all around us. I don't particularly know of any cleanses that will rid us of these toxins, but there is medical chelation therapies (which are not bunk chelation therapies) that he can go for if he really thinks that he is at risk.

For myself, i rid myself of as many household toxins as I could (cleaning products, etc), and if I replace anything in my home, I try to go with a natural version as opposed to an unnatural one (or a used one that will have already off-gassed).

I recently watched this BBC show in which the narrator explores several types of fasting to improve his health, including intermittent fasting:

Recently read that cilantro will eliminate certain toxins from the body. Here is a very good article on the topic ( it discusses eliminating heavy metals from the body):

If the problem is lead exposure, I'd get professional medical help with chelation elimination. Fasting would break down one's fat stores, flooding lead into the bloodstream, which is the last thing I'd want - lead does horrid things to the brain and does cross the blood-brain barrier, as proven by many unfortunate children.
