one of my coworkers and I had been seeing some issues with our directors at site that were common. Between our group there are 5 in out position and 8 schools, each with a director. One issue was having a common set of expectations for their job that they understood well, and getting around feeling like we were just burdening them instead of holding them to job expectations. So weplanned a short training for all the directors and their supervisors to come to on a school dismissal day yesterday. Overall I know I am trained out, I have had enough! So I wanted to make sure this was really valuable, somethign that they could use next week in their programs.

I think it went really well, people were not running for the door at least. We did 3 parts. One was job expectations, we started with them brainstorming what their job included, and some of what the expectations were for us, and then went to the job description to add anything we missed. The next part was on courageous conversations, so we did a team builder and then in groups discussed 3 different tricky conversations such as with a parent who is always late or a staff person who is not engaged with the kids. I talked a little about how teams that are not working well together can use those teambuilders to work through some issues.

Then we did curriculum, but not the nuts and bolts of how to write a lesson plan but rather how to get kids really engaged by being prepared. The staff got into asking about what they could do with getting kids into an activity. I have seen often where staff will just say that kids don't listen or don't want to do things, so it was very good to show them there are ways and a skill set they can learn to improve that. One of my pet peeves is not having materials set up in an attractive way and not interacting with kids during wait times.

Just had to share, I am really enjoying training adults right now.
