Where is good place to get non-nylon women's socks? What are decent brands? I have only bought nylon or wool hiking socks for so long I have no idea where to get good dressier socks.
Thanks for your input.
Do you have a Mark's Work Warehouse, in your area, Mrs. Hermit? If so, your troubles are over.
Also, check Wal-Mart. I've had really good luck with finding quality socks for everyone at Wallies World.

Our wally world only sells cotton-fall-aparts or nylon jobs. I need to get away from nylon socks.
SmartWool is my go-to brand for socks. They sell dressier socks in addition to hiking and other athletic socks. They are expensive, but last a long time, in my experience.

I love Smartwool hiking socks, and I discovered a doppelganger at Sam's called Omniwool, for about 2/3 less. Even nicer, they're made in the US. I know you're looking for dressier socks, so you might check your local warehouse store for decent socks - I thought I'd seen what there was to see there, until I looked a bit closer.
I gave up on long-wearing women's socks a long time ago. Now I buy men's socks in my size; I have large feet and it works out well with the smallest size. It helps that I do not need fancy socks.
I love SmarWool socks, as well, but at $10 a pair, gosh, just cannot bring myself to buy them again.

When you say dressier socks, do you mean thin nylon ones like trouser socks? Or just cotton crew socks?
I've gotten some good socks at JC Penny--they have their own brand, and I've also purchased some cotton Gold Toe socks there that have lasted at least 5 years.
For dressy trouser socks, that go up to your knee, try One Hanes Place, which is an outlet store. It's online and there are some brick and mortar stores as well.

I too am wondering just what you are looking for. My idea of "dress" socks are nylon trouser socks. I recently got some relatively comfy (for nylon) ones at Sears.
I prefer cotton knee socks which I can wear to work in the winter because I wear short boots for footwear. I don't have any one source for those. I bought a bunch at Filene's Basement before they closed. There's a boutique in Portland ME that has nice socks. Some might recall that I have some type of sock acquisition disorder :|(

Was not aware of that, good to know. :)
Check out the women's socks at L.L.Bean. I recommend them highly as I have worn them for years.

My Smartwool sox last for years. I consider good sox worth the $$. Like good shoes, when I treat my feet right, the rest of me is happier. I've recently noticed how much this matters; when I go back to garden clogs for more than just a run to the recycle bin, my achilles tendons ache and the arthritis in my knees flares.

Yes, I am looking for trouser or dress socks. $10 for a pair sounds spendy, but if that is what it takes.... In the past I used nylon trousers socks or knee-highs, but my feet have become inflamed and nylon socks don't breathe enough.

I love Smartwools. They are worth the money. They wear well, are breathable and wash well.

Woolrich also has wool socks...
