View Full Version : Election returns
Are you going to watch on television or listen on the radio as the returns come in? Or are you going to bury your head under the pillow and sleep through it and find out (let's hope) who won the next day? Or maybe you are going to a victory party? What are your plans?
DH is definitely in the head under the pillow camp. I will probably snooze off and on with the radio on.

I work until 9 pm Central, but I plan to DVR PBS and ABC, and will check the Internet every now and then at work. Hopefully it will have been decided before I even get home from work.
I'll listen on the radio and probably check online sources, as well.
I'll be glued to the TV with laptop and iPad in hand from about 6pm Eastern time until it's either called or it becomes apparent that we have days/weeks to wait.

I may go to an election party tomorrow night. If not, I'll tune in around 10 pm and again at midnight.
I only hope that the win will be clear and decisive (other than the usual whining about popular vote vs electoral vote) and that this thing does not drag out for days and weeks.Although truth be told I DID enjoy the 2000 election. DH and I traveled to Texas over Thanksgiving when the votes were still being counted and we stopped at the Governor's mansion in Austin so soak in the vibe. GW was at that time still doing a daily run around town but did not manage to see him. That was exciting because all of the major news outlets were camped out in front of the Texas Governor's mansion, they were tired, they were cranky. awwwww poor them.
Even if I wanted to ignore it, SO will be glued to TV and computer, so unless I actually leave the house I'll hear all about it. And I'd probably hear about it even if I left since he'd likely be texting me every ten minutes...
I'll be at a friends watching on TV. I expect it to be similair to the Gore/Bush election so won't hold my breath for the results tomorrow night. I already voted by absentee ballot so it's just wait and see. Should be interesting and if truth be told, I really will probably be OK with either person (although I voted for Obama) as I have both strong "right" and "left" leanings and something good (as well as bad) of my expectations will be met... well, until the next congressional debates!

UGGGGGGHHHH!
I promised myself I would not put myself through the nail-biting drama this is seeming to shape up to be but it's like an alcoholic needs a drink, a herion addict needs a fix, I find myself telling myself, look just watch enough to find out who wins Ohio.....Going to try to avoid the media tomorrow night but I'm not saying 100% I will.....Rob

We will probably watch American Pickers/Pawn Stars, etc. and check a news channel now and then. I'll probably go to bed at 10 or so and if a winner is not declared by then, I can wait until tomorrow or later if that is how it turns out.
I have the feeling it won't be for weeks until we know. I told DH "hey.......maybe it will take 4 years to decide!" :)
But I will be watching tonight. Very complex, interesting election.

The TV in my house is tucked away in the living room, which is sort of isolated from the rest of the house, and I rarely have time to sit in there, basically doing nothing but watching the TV. So I'll probably go about my usual evening routine and try to remember to check on-line before heading to work on Wednesday, so that I have a clue about what everyone will be talking about.
Whatever's going to happen will happen, whether I'm watching it or not.
Frankly, I just want the election over with. I'm in a "swing" state. Yesterday I got home from work and there were 11 phone calls on caller ID and 5 messages. By 9 pm, there had been 7 more calls, and 4 messages. All the messages were political and I'm pretty sure the rest of the calls were too, as I didn't recognize a single phone number. I've had multiple door-to-door political visits every weekend for the past month. Honestly, I'm worn out with politics and I just want the election over. Hardly even care who wins at this point. Did give some thought to voting for the candidate with the least calls/visits, but they are running pretty much neck and neck at this point.
We're having a little appetizer/cocktail potluck to socialize and watch the returns with friends. We will go until the results are in, the margaritas dry up or until 10:00. Election or not, its still a school night...
I will watch it on PBS to avoid all the male centered physical problems. 4 hours That wouldn't be a problem. It would be a gift.
Nice!
I'll be checking online. Husband won't care to watch it on television, but he'll want updates. I just have this feeling, we're not going to have an answer tonight with trying to count votes in NJ. It does sound like they are making the best of it with the fax/email and allowing voters to vote at any polling station that they can get to. Hope everyone that registered is able to.

Probably a series of soirees in Seattle, starting with the progressive Dem's at the Warwick hotel (in case you're in town!), and moving onto the R-74 (Marriage Equality) party, then the Governor's race party. I like parties! If I get wound up, I may stop by the legalize marijuana event, but promise not to overindulge, and if I do, I promise to not drive. ;-)

I wish I was with you in Seattle. We live in red county in California.
Well I have to say I got a kick out of the midnight ballot result from Dixville Notch, NH. Cracked me up and probably a fairly good sign how this electon vote tally will be. I've always wondered, do you think that some people who ahevn't voted yet (west coast people) are influenced by early election results coming out of other states? I always thought that was the case in the primaries and wondered if it could be the case in a Nat election. I also wonder why, in the age of the computer, why all votes can't be tallied at the same time, and the resuilts issued at the same time, instead of piecemeal state by state.

Carter conceded 3 hours before the polls closed in the west, which resulted in a lot of people not bothering to vote at all. Reagan likely would have won CA anyway, but still, it certainly threw a wet blanket on things and caused some unintended consequences. Now the candidates at least wait until everyone has voted.
Then the media tried to stop calling states until after all polls closed at least in the CUS. I think that has gone by the wayside, though.
I'm going to say something real inappropriate here.
Redfox........in your statement of promising not to drive if you stop at the legalize marijuana event..........Many years ago my brother had been smoking with some other guys and then started to drive home. The police pulled him over and said "Son........do you know how fast you were going??" My brother guessed a few times........50? 60? The cop said "No.......you were going 11." :0! :laff:
