View Full Version : How long ahead can you make pie crust
If I make pie crust this weekend for Thanksgiving will it be good on Thursday?
You can freeze pie crusts. While it might be good for a week, I would freeze it until I was ready to bake the pie. Then thaw it for an hour or so.
I used to make pies for a local eatry and still do on occasion. I'd make 20 crusts at a time and freeze. Worked out very well
Seems a bit silly to freeze and defrost something less than a week later. It's just flour and lard. I guess I'm not asking if it will "keep" but rather, will it come out well. It seems like it should.
My mom always made the crust a few days ahead and just put them in the frig. Her pies ate the best I've ever had.

Glo, it's so nice to see you on the board, missed your posts!
Thanks Tussie. I've been really busy. I seem to be one of those retired people who doesn't know how they ever had time to go to work. LOL. Wouldn't have it any other way but time is flying. Can't believe I've been retired 6 years!

:)
My grandmother used to keep an enormous plastic container with pie crust mix for months and would just take out what she needed whenever she made a pie. She mixed the flour and Crisco together and then added the water just before rolling out the dough. And her pies were really good.
Well, I just made a crust yesterday, wrapped it up tight and it sits in the fridge. I'm sure it will be great. The fact that no one came on here saying NOT to was reassuring.
