View Full Version : saw a fox hanging in my back yard
There was a fur ball out in the back yard, I was worried it was an injured animal. My cat is a different color so I wasn't worried about him at least. So we went out and a fox was just chilling in this indent in the yard. It was a sunny spot, warm I guess. Then he got up and stretched and lay back down. Kinda acted like a cat more than anything. We went about taking out the trash and eventually he took off. Kinda cool, I have usually seen foxes at night and more when we were not in the city.

How cool! I love foxes. When I lived in New Mexico, I used to see one on my hikes up the mountain. One time he sat with me and watched the sunset. I was really into Native American animal totems at the time.
We had a whole family of foxes at the barn one summer. At first I thought the kits were fluffy little kittens. I loved watching them play and yes, they are very cat-like. Ever see one hunt? They jump straight up into the air before they pounce. It was fun watching the babies torment their poor mom. She would try to lay down in the field for a rest and the little ones were all over her, trying to get her to play.
When we first bought this place the big male fox would come and sit about 10 feet from me and watch me move rocks. He probably thought I was crazy but gorod entertainment. Always liked foxes.....until I got chickens.
Before I moved into the city I used to see foxes all the time. There was a spot up the road where you could almost depend on seeing a pair or three of them moving around dusk. I had always thought that they were solitary hunters, but maybe this was just an easy path for them to travel and more than one was just coincidence.
This is off-topic, but I also had a coyote that used to hang out in the yard. That was cool. The first time I saw her/him I thought it was a dog hanging out back there, until I called to her and she turned to look at me. Really beautiful, but chilling. I just back pedaled into the house and watched her from inside.

Plenty of foxes (big foxes not the small, ordinary variety) and coyotes here, pretty from afar but we have chickens so don't like them to come too close. There is a white fox about which is kind of cool. We have neighbors who trap (all trying to get the white fox) and that keeps the population down and the pack coyotes roam so their presence is sporadic. I like the small wildlife but there was a cougar sighted recently and a bear within the last few days...makes me nervous.
I live in the near suburbs (just w/in the city limits) and have seen foxes in my neighborhood a few times while walking at night. This has just been new in the past 2 or 3 years.
Yeah, I saw more wildlife when I lived in the mountains and in the burbs, I live downtown now. a neighborhood full of small houses from the 50's but not near an open space or country at all.
We have a fox traveling through our neighborhood. He / she is so small, not much bigger around than my miniature schnauzer - but with longer legs. I know this one is an adult, as it has been around for a few years now. I am always shocked by how small they are. Is that a Florida thing? I remember them being bigger up north.
Neat-O! They are so cute!
