Home today, natch, 'cause I'm retired now, online several times as I do most days, and get to thinking "hey, it's cyber Monday and what deals am I missing out on!? My gosh, you'd better check!"

Now, I don't have any Christmas shopping to do. One book for my stepmom every year, that's it, and I ordered that last week. But THERE'S DEALS TO BE HAD! Must SHOP! IT'S CYBER MONDAY! Old habits die hard, don't they? sigh.

Found a totatally cute pair of affordable good-brand sneakers $10.00 off, free shipping, almost clicked.....and talked myself down.

Found a great puffy vest (which I really want but really! how often do I have somewhere to go to wear a great-looking puffy vest?) and it was 50% off! With free shipping! And that other adorable sweater vest - that would look so cool when I go.....(yeah, Lin, where? How often really would you wear such a thing?) Almost clicked.....and talked myself down.

Proud to say I spent $0.00 today on Cyber Monday. I perservered.....but it WAS a little difficult.....

Anyone else?

Way to get that monkey off your back, Blackdog!

No spending for me either today. Looked @ Eddie Bauer and it was 40% off everything on the site plus free shipping on everything and I really want that down shirt... But I refrained.

Was going to stop by the pet food store to get some cans of cat food but they are closed on Mondays.

Finally, tonight I was going to go out and get some sale clothing to wear when I run (which I'm going to start to do again tomorrow--regardless of whether or not the iPod I ordered arrives) but I'm like, I just can't go out there! I already have some shabby looking suff. I'll go on the weekend.

So a no spend day for me, too.

So mostly for me, no spend is more about "can't be bothered" rather than self-restraint--but whatever works!

I would really like to do another no spend thread for December like we did in September but not many people were really that into it...

bae, we will forgive and overlook your sandwich purchase. It was not an online gotta-have-it, even-if-I-don't-really-need-it - purchase. Necessary food-items are exempted. :)

Though I'd like to ask your wife: did she have any online temptations today? How did she do?

Oh, I just made out pretty well. Sierra Trading Post had a 25% off special so I got four pairs of Smartwool socks and my mom chose a fleece neck gator----all for $50!! My most expensive pair of socks were black knee-hi ones for $10.12. A steal!!

Also got a contoured purple saddle pad for a good price with free shipping. I've wanted it for a few years now and my one other brown one is falling apart. My brown pony looks great in purple.

UPDATE: My 4 prs. of socks actually only cost me $37. The rest was shipping and my mom's gator. Smartwool socks are going to spoil my feet.

Check out the Personal Finance thread entitled "We are losing the battle, no seriously."

I belive this cyber monday victory demonstrates the point I am trying to make there.

<<<
The Thread Under "Frugality, Products, Purchases" entitled "Cyber Monday Victory" is a pure perfect example of what I am trying to say. It is fitting the OP used the word "victory" as I have been talking about the "battle" here.

In the thread, the OP states that the victory was saying no to a few "good deals" on the internet on Cyber Monday.

This is the pure win for sure!

Not only because the OP did not succumb to the sales, but actually changed the world view to establish "victory" as not scoring the best deal out there, but rather, as not buying anything! >>>

My Christmas shopping is done but I decided to surf and check out the Cyber Monday deals. I didn't find anything that I considered a bargain, didn't need anything to begin with so I spent 'zero' on Cyber Monday.

I really wanted to look at all the deals flowing into my inbox, but I am sooooo close to being debt free that I talked myself down. Not entirely free of sin as I did do one largish on-line order a couple of weeks ago that I'm waiting on eagerly, but no buying during the 'Black Weekend'.

I forgot it was cyber Monday. I did check out some books I plan to order for the kids, but didn't buy.
I did call an electrician, but as he is coming Thursday I didn't really spend the money yet.

I didn't buy anything either! It feels good not to buy just because it is the most fantastic deal weekend of the holiday season!
Hubby and I also set a limit for our christmas spending this year and it feels good to know we have the cash to do it :)

The irony is that, in past years, many prices got even better around Christmastime and shortly after. Since almost everything I want to buy is either fungible (food, diesel fuel, etc.) or electronic (which keeps going down in price anyway), it wasn't hard for me to keep the credit card in its holster. ;)

My cyber Monday victory was buying my last three (modest) gifts on line, two of them from Etsy. So holiday shopping is done, save maybe a stocking stuffer or two.

My Mom just sent me an Eddie Bauer gift card for100.00 since she forgot when it was my birthday back in June. LOL!
I didn't have anything new to wear for Christmas Eve and Christmas
So I found two sweaters I love for 40% off and free shipping. Plus I have 21.00 dollars left over and 10.00 in free coupon bucks. I felt very good about having something new to wear and at a wonderful deal!

I think he looks cute. I tell him it's a very manly studly color so he doesn't get embarassed.

I did get a winter jacket for 50% Off that I desperately needed since my old one is falling apart. It was just luck, though, since I had forgotten it was Cyber Monday and just went on-line to try to find something in my hard-to-fit size.
The funny thing I noticed today was that several vendors had extended their Cyber Monday deals into today or all the way to Friday.:~)

Extended Cyber Monday which is an extended Black Friday....sigh....I DID spend money on Monday. I had the okay from my DIL for the gift I was buying on Amazon for my grandson so I went ahead and did it. It was NOT a cyber Monday deal. I did, however, look at the deals and nothing I saw had any appeal for me.

I still have shopping to do and no ideas and of course would like to spend less rather than more. But the Cyber Monday thing wasn't for me. Not due to any strong anti-consumerist bent. We actually went to Maine and shopped on Black Friday (after the holiday with my family) but we went to Freeport where the shops are small and discrete. On Saturday, though, we ended up in a shopping mall (briefly, no purchases, just ran screaming) and a Big Box store to pick up an item my DH had ordered. And we did buy boots for DSD but nothing that was on sale particularly for Black Friday, I don't think.

So...I think we did okay. Avoiding advertising is key for me, though I am now pretty bored by advertising, so I tend to ignore it when it is pushed on me.
