I'm still trying to get my head around the beef some in the Senate have against Ambassador Rice. Could someone on here explain it to me?

She is the US Ambassador to the UN. What does she have to do with the attack in Benghazi? Yes, she made comments on the Sunday morning shows about it on behest of the president, and she got wrong. But she was using the talking points from the intelligence community.

Now they aren't saying she lied, but they are saying they think she should have made a different emphasis. That means to me she should have used a different spin.

So they are now mad that she went on Sunday morning talks shows and fed us spin? Assuming she did (I'm still not convinced), well, what is the big deal about that? Evey senator who has gone on these shows about this issue have done precisely the same thing.

I'm thinking there is something else going on here besides Benghazi or lies or any of this stuff they claim is going on.

I think there are several things going on and many angles worthy of review. It would appear that she was put in an untenable position for political purposes. She was used by the administration to put forth the narrative they wanted the public to hear as the election approached. If that narrative was successful, it also gave her high level public exposure, an audition of sorts prior to being nominated for the SOS appointment. The fact that the narrative was dis-proved complicated the plan. Everything since then has been politics. I think the ultimate goal of the Republicans is to expose why the administration presented the false narrative and the best way to do so is through their proxy.

It appears that one possible reason the Republican senators led by McCain, Ayotte and Graham are spewing such vitriol against Rice is that upon the resignation of Clinton, Rice (as current UN Ambassador) is Obama's chosen replacement for Secretary of State. If she is somehow blocked from this position, the next most likely candidate for the job would be Democratic senator from MA, John Kerrey. Supposedly Republicans want Kerrey out of the Senate because this would free up a seat that could go to Scott Brown of MA the former Republican junior senator from MA who just lost to Elizabeth Warren. Republicans want another Republican in the Senate and they want that Republican to be Scott Brown.

Bunnys, That makes a lot of sense.

One thing it has done is made the fiscal cliff a secondary story in the media. And at this point it should really be the only story. The House is scheduled to recess for the year 12/14, they only have about 2 weeks left.

I hadn't thought of that possibility Bunnys. Oh what a tangled web we weave,
When first we practise to deceive!

Well as hitting the fiscal cliff is the best thing that can be hoped for given the not very good choices we are likely to get ... maybe we can just cross our fingers and hope it hits, with no Grand Bargain. Though I'm sure they'll find a way to gut Social Security and Medicare for all time in the last few weeks before the holidays. Just so we can you know be the only 1st world country an earth without almost no retirement programs. But it's ok they can apply it only to people under 55 or something, so the fact that noone is actually hiring 70 year olds, only shows up in a few years.
