I have been in a major decluttering mode over the past year. Even after years of on-and-off decluttering, there is still stuff that we aren't using and since we are planning to sell our home within the next couple of years, I am bound and determine to get down to just the things we really need.
My MIL gave me her wedding gown about 15 years ago. They were decluttering themselves, she decided she didn't want it. Her daughter, my SIL didn't want it, so she asked me. I took it, though I didn't know what I would do with it at the time. I put it in big cardboard storage box, wrapped it in muslin, and stuck it in a closet.
Last night, I started clearing out the closet and found it. The gown is classic 1950 wedding gown, except for one thing. It was altered. The train was cut off and the long, pointed sleeves are gone. IIRC, it was altered for formal wear, as MIL's mom was a seamstress and shortly after MIL and FIL were married, FIL was drafted into the Air Force. The gown was altered for a formal dance and sent to MIL to wear as finances were tight for her and FIL. It looks nice as it is, the alteration was very professionally done.
I was thinking of trying to sell it on Ebay or something but since it's altered, I am not sure there would be interest in it as vintage clothing. Anyone know? Any other ideas? My SIL and niece have no interest it at all, so giving it to them is not an option. DH doesn't care what I do with it.
