We went to the party of a friend tonight; we had never been to her house before. (She is my DH's older brother's second wife's father's second wife, so we're practically family). Her late husband was curator of the Decordova Art Museum in Lincoln, MA, and she has quite the amazing art collection. Her house is a cool old New England home, but modest, certainly no mansion. When we told her how much we were enjoying her art, she invited us to roam the house and check it out, so we did, wine glasses in hand, as though we were in a gallery. On the second floor, there was a great picture of laundry blowing in the wind on a clothesline, and I said to DH "Mrs. M! She would so love this picture!" And you would have. It was a great picture, and what an unusual subject. The artist truly turned that simple subject matter into an excellent work of art. :)

Awww... you are such a sweetheart, Rosa!

Sounds like you had a lovely evening. My dream (one day) is to visit as many museums as I can, and admire artwork and rarities. Occasionally I'll come across a clothesline picture or scene, and it never fails to stop me dead in my tracks. Even when the scene isn't real (painted, etc), my mind wanders...

I think, "I wonder how many people live in the house behind that line", or, "where", as in, "what part of the world does the picture/scene reflect". Artwork, has a way of doing that to me, making me think about things and dream. I can loose myself in no time when admiring such works.

So nice that you thought of me. :)

OMG! I love that one, Catherine! It has such a whimsical colouration to it! The light colours keep it fresh.

Here is a favourite of mine!

It exemplifies simple/frugal living so well.

Neat! This one was a little bit "artsy" if you will. Crappy adjective, but the best I can come up with at the moment. It was black and white and it took a minute to realize what you were looking at, but it was actually quite beautiful.
Yes, I love to visit museums and that's something we often do when on vacation. Museums and historic home and garden tours.

You probably saw this advertising use of the clothesline for Newfoundland tourism:

And I also found a photostream on flickr that is all clotheslines in Newfoundland. Here's the link: [URL="http://www.flickr.com/photos/by_the_bay_gal/galleries/72157624723347125/

That is an awesome picture! Love the colours! I, too, spent a considerable amount of time today Googling clotheslines. Anyone else do double takes whenever you spot a clothesline dressed in washing?

Yup! That would be me! I just love the look of line drying clothes. You should check out allposters.com for more images of clothelines.

Mrs. M - Strawberry Hill was (is) an old neighborhood in Kansas City, Kansas (across the river from Kansas City, MO). I believe it was originally settled by a lot of Croatians. http://kansastravel.org/strawberryhillmuseum.htm More from the same artist (or so it appears): http://www.kshs.org/kansapedia/cool-things-strawberry-hill-paintings/15116

sorry for the highjack, but thought you'd be interested.

That is so totally cool, Beckyliz!!! Whenever I happen across photos/paintings, anything that reminds me of my own childhood/adulthood (upbringing), I never fail to quietly think to myself, "could the place be real", or, "is it a reflection of someone's life or memory/experience, or the memory of someone else's life, witnessed?".

I know what I'll be doing tonight! LOL! Thanks so much for posting about.

Before I left on my trip this week, I had to run to the basement and pick up some clean clothes I had on my line drying, and I just had to stop at the pillowcases that I had hung to dry--they were wrinkle-free, yet with "backbone" (remember my tip about fluffing for 2 min. in a hot dryer). They were so beautiful I had to stop just to touch them.

I remember your tip/trick extra well, Catherine! Been practicing it ever since you posted it! One thing I've noticed about line-drying, compared to tumble dryer- drying, is that line-drying preserves more of a fresh scent, where as tumble dryers seem to take so much of that away.

P.S. It's always so much fun, comforting, too, whenever I happen across others who think (and do) the same as me! Like enjoying line-fresh goodness!
