View Full Version : Dog slobber on windows..........white vinegar!
I have to admit, I'm not great at keeping our windows spotless. I can see what I need to see out of them, even when dirty. :0!
Anyhow.....in the corner of our dining room is one of those tower things for cats. Well, our cat is gone :( but the dog now uses it for a look-out.
In growling and barking at wildlife, she gets her slobber all over it. Its really hard to clean off. Even with Windex it is really hard. You almost need a putty knife. :~)
(Oh those mucopolysaccharides!).
Anyhow, today I wasn't having much luck with Windex and I thought of distilled vinegar. It cut through it in seconds! YAY!
Just thought I'd mention this for all you dog lovers who have dogs that mess up your windows.

Thanks for the great tip. We refer to it as atomic snot at our house. So hard to get off and the dog seems to love the taste of windex and will go right behind you and lick right over it.

In our house we just consider that lovingly applied snart (snot art) and leave it. It's not at human eye level anyway. :)

I just noticed that our dog Suzi has already starting replacing her "art work".>8)
We had a huge bush in front of that window that we decided to prune severely yesterday She's in 7th Heaven now, being able to see everything out there now. I'm glad I figured out the distilled vinegar, 'cause I'm really going to need it now. :~)

Yeah, vinegar is wonderful for getting off the "atomic snot". LOVE that term! :D

Our cat Bill left a series of nose prints on "his" window. After he died we couldn't bring ourselves to clean that window for a long time. It's the same window that DH build shelves into to hold his African Violets. The first shelf was measured to be just above Bill's head.
Same thing here IL. In our computer room, our sweet cat who died a couple years ago, had sat there and put nose prints/slobber, etc on the window. It took a long time to clean that off the window.......

I get that CathyA. A dear friend lost her beloved cat a couple of years ago and has the same prints on her window where he watched the birds at her feeder. She just can't wash them off.

Well, in addition to nose prints (oddly, my beloved Angelo, who died in September, didn't leave any - he wasn't a window watcher), cat fur sticks around for a long time, too, as a remembrance. :) I am still finding Angelo hairs on clothes and such, and it's distinctly different from the fur from the other cat and the two dogs.

I definitely have D.S. on my windows--the front door side panes and the back French doors, and I agree that vinegar is the best for getting rid of it!!
I love vinegar. I have a bottle of diluted vinegar in a Home Depot spritzer bottle. My husband hates it, but as far as I'm concerned, vinegar can cut out a lot of different cleaning products, is cheap, and effective. I use it to clean floors, cabinets, windows, wood furniture, .. etc. etc.
A bit smelly perhaps, but it evaporates. And you can add essential oils to mask the vinegar-y smell.
