Same gender couples can legally apply for a marriage license in WA state! Woo hoo!!!!! (And can then party with cannabis, if they are over 21...)

(And can then party with cannabis, if they are over 21...)I'm glad to see another state where this is legal.....and add Maryland to the list, and then in Minnesota the voters did not let same sex marriage be struck down.....there's some hope for equality for all there it seems to me - very very very slow coming, but better late than never. So glad we are becoming more civilized (in this way, at least)

My vote helped ensure my very first best friend (we were inseparable in first grade) is finally going to be able to marry his partner of 15 years -- and they can get good and high before or after the wedding (or maybe both!). I am also so happy these laws passed. Washingtonians have a long history of fighting for justice and for our civil rights. Proud to be from a progressive state!

Yeah, I like it here. Usually, we're in sync with Oregon, but they're lagging behind. If history is any indicator, they'll be coming along. Then friends down there can marry if they so choose.

This is wonderful to read about. Can't help but think about all the happy couples lining up for the same thing in October 2008 (my husband's uncles were one of those couples) in California, but then the next month, the bigots won and gay marriage was made illegal. Those marriages that happened in October 2008 are still legal though, so that's something.

Baby steps are too be celebrated though, so I don't mean to take away from other states' 2012 achievements. I am just bitterly disappointed in California, and will continue to be until Prop. 8 is repealed.

That's a wonderful photo.

My Dad and his partner of ~35 years will be coming up here this summer to get married. They both look like older members of the Mad Men cast, though, not loggers :-)

Imagine that, 35 years!!! of being told your relationship was somehow wrong, of having to engage in all sorts of bothersome work-arounds to gain access to the basic rights and abilities we just blithely hand over to any 18 year old heterosexual couple that walks into the courthouse for a marriage license...

I am so glad for the couples who can finally have the legal rights others enjoy.

When this happened in NY after the first few weeks it was barely a blip on the screen, people just quietly went on living their lives.
