View Full Version : Connecting HDMI from computer to TV
I would like to *legally* watch movies from my computer on my TV.
For instance, you can pay 2.99 on youtube to watch a movie. I want it to show on my TV though.
My TV will take an HDMI cord.
My computer has a VGA slot.
Do I just have to buy a small ($10) VGA to HDMI conversion?
Thank You.

Yep
Alan, can you pull up a link to make sure i get the right one?
Sure, a link is easy: http://www.amazon.com/Video-Cable-Black-Support-Necessary/dp/B002TUC64W/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354943527&sr=1-1&keywords=vga+to+hdmi
wow thanks and for only 3 bucks with free shipping!
however, my vga slot does not have a spot for those two male ends on the sides (that screw in). my computer only would take that female big central main piece would go in.

What exact computer?

That's OK, those screws are not fixed, just pull them back out of the way.
Edited to add: There are a couple of other things to consider, such as sound, a straight vga to hdmi cable carries the video signal only, you'd have to depend upon your computer speakers to hear. Also, depending upon the TV and computer ports, you may need to add a male to female or female to male adaptor to a standard cable. It would pay to examine your ports closely before purchasing one.
You'll also want to make sure you buy a cable long enough to do the job. The one I linked to was only 6ft long.
Radio Shack is a good place to browse for miscellaneous parts like this, and often advice as well.
Jane, I agree. Radio Shack fills such an interesting niche. I only ever think of going there when I have a situation like heydude's, not when I need to make a major purchase of any sort. I guess that either other people do actually buy real stuff there, or maybe there's enough markup on cables and connectors that they can stay in business by focusing on this part of the electronics marketplace.
