DH is trying to get his blood pressure down before resorting to statins or other pharmaceuticals. He has been reading about something called pan salt that is used in Finland and turns out to be a more balanced source of sodium as it is combined with other minerals. I have not been able to find any website about it being sold in the US which seems really strange to me. Does anyone here know anything about his product or where to buy in the US? Thanks!
Have not heard of it. The lifestyle changes that work best are exercise and weight loss. Also reduction in chronic anxiety. My husbands borderline high bp went away when he changed jobs.

I found these as possible mail-order sources.

Whether sodium reduction will help with his hypertension depends on the source of his hypertension.
Mine is genetic. I can eat zero sodium, changing nothing else, and it doesn't affect my numbers one bit.
But I can exercise, and reduce my stress, and take hawthorn berry supplements, and bingo! My blood pressure is back in the normal range.
So it's worthwhile to try different things. Contrary to what many doctors will tell you, there is no "one size fits all" solution, and sodium reduction may or may not help at all. Worth experimenting to find your husband's magic bullet.

Sodium reduction doesn't make any difference in my high blood pressure. Mine is genetic. It doesn't matter what I do, it won't go to a normal range anymore without medication. My Dad and Grandmother both died from damage from longterm high blood pressure. I know the importance of keeping mine down...
Aren't statins for high cholesterol? My HBP medication is not a statin.
Don't let your DH's HBP go on too long without treatment. It can be very dangerous. I don't have any bad side effects from my HBP medication. Your DH can try different ones until he finds one that works well for him without bad side effects. And if he finds something natural that works for him that would be great, but don't count on it. I've always been very anti-pharmaceutical, but I realize I don't have any other options at this point.
(fyi - statins are for high cholesterol)

Obviously, I don't know my pharmaceuticals very well. Perhaps I meant Levacor. He will be trying all means including losing 40 pounds as the first step. The salt is just one of many things to try.

Thanks, Blackdog. As a sidenote, it is Finnish researchers who found that cardio incidents greatly reduced when their population switched to Pansalt. It is not sodium per se but an imbalance with potassium.
Not familiar with pan salt, but there are lots of herb and spice blends you can buy or make at home that give food lots of flavor without salt. I think the big key in reducing salt intake is replacing it with other flavors in food you make at home so you don't miss it. DW has/had genetic high BP and we absolutely found that the first step in keeping hers in check was to limit any kind of processed food and not eat out so often. Assume anything you get from anywhere that is pre-made or ready to eat or convenient in any way is completely filled with salt and you will never be far off.

Hmm interesting, I'm not sure what that is. I definitely remember that potassium chloride salt and using that rather than sodium chloride salt (growing up we often had that, oh health nuttery). Nowdays since I don't have high blood pressure I just stick to sodium chloride but do believe there may be benefits to more natural forms of this (natural sea salts etc.) compared to the super refined stuff. Yea statins are for cholesterol, I don't think the high blood pressure meds are anywhere near as nasty as statins.
