About a year's worth, from a time when I was very ill. I felt sooooooo relieved after burning them.

Before I did, I said to a friend that I was having 2nd thoughts. I said "What if I need these journals for when I write my book?" He said, "What book? This is the first I am hearing about a book." ;) I said, "Yeah, to help other people who get sick."

Anyway, even if I wrote said book, it would be too awful to read even one sentence in those journals.

So I burned them. I have a few more years' worth to burn at the next opportunity. :+1:

One of the most interesting discussions we had on the list, a one time discussion, was about getting rid of old letters from exes.

What compels us to get rid of old writing can be as interesting as the old writing themselves.

I did the same thing last summer, Life_Is_Simple - I feel good knowing DH will not have to read that drivel at any point if something horrible happens to me. Sometimes I wonder if someday I will be sad about it, but for now, I feel lighter. Actually, now that I think about it, I never give it any thought until it comes up on the forums! :)

Congrats on your decision.

Good for you LIS!
I did the same thing several years ago - all that misery up in smoke! Good riddance.

Hi, this topic also rings a bell for me. I have just paid to have my journals scanned onto a disk and am still contemplating shredding the originals. I have bought a shredder but am still hesitating.... The idea is to keep the journals somewhere (on a hard drive) so I still have access to them but they are not cluttering up anywhere or prone to being read by others. I am sure I will shred them, its making that decision. Well done on your decision, hope you feel better for it.
