View Full Version : Changing-out calendars. Old with new...
Everyone change-out their old calendars for new?
What does everyone have hanging on their walls this year?
I have calendars I made via VistaPrint. My photography of dh's glass.
I found a stash in my bookcase of old funny calendars that I saved for the pictures. Now one is correct for this year so I am rehanging it on the wall. I have about 10 of these and may never need to buy another calendar.

Saw on Facebook all of the past year calendar years back to 1900 that would fit for this year. Thought it was neat...
Mom always buys me a pretty one for Xmas. This year, it's "Wildflowers, Poetry of the Earth."
I've got a Nature Conservancy calendar so I'll be looking at penguins in my home office for the month of January. Got a NY Times calendar on my refrigerator.
At one of my company's office buildings, there's a department where everyone hangs their calendars in a hallway of cubicles, and it's pretty funny to see. Everything from kittens to motorcycles to landscapes to dilbert jokes all next to each other.
My boss gave me a calendar of photos he had taken. The photos are all heart shapes he found out in nature. Rocks, light, shadows, bark, blossom clusters, etc. Really cool.

Thanks for the reminder! I hadn't thought about it yet. I write down all our "birthdays" for the year on my desk calendar that hangs on the wall right beside the 'puter, so I need to get that done before I hang it.
This year it's Norman Rockwell classics. I had purchased a pretty "sunsets" one, but neglected to take the size of it into account. It's too big, and hangs too low to see the whole month. A friend of DH's brought me the Rockwell one a couple weeks ago, and it fits fine, so that's the one for this year. (Luckily the one I bought was only $1.00, so I don't mind tossing it.)

We normally have several people that bring in calendars, but that hasn't happened this year (so far). From a couple of printing friends, it seems like it is going to be lighter this year. So I picked up a desk style calendar, that I am planning on hanging on the wall, with the decluttering sight, year challenge thing that was mentioned here before. I figured a large one for $1.50, was a bargain to see the reminder.
If/when I get another, it will go to the garage, for the car maintenance type of stuff.
Nice.
I have fallen in love with the calendars from artist, John Sloane (http://www.johnsloaneart.com/store.php), and will be asking for one next Christmas.
If you look on the far left of his web page, you'll find, "John's Print Gallery". Click on the titles to see what wonderful work he does. Really takes me back in time.
Under "Tractors and Farm Instruments", there are three pictures I could travel to, and get lost forever in. (Before Breakfast, First Frost, and Frosty Fields).
My very favourite is, Summer, One, Two, Three.
Thanks for the link Mrs-M! Very nice!
I gave calendars this year to family members. This artist's current one is what my DH & I get every year for ourselves.

I have a calendar that my church gives out each year. I actually use the Google calendar on my phone much more than a paper wall calendar, at least at home. At work I keep a 3 month small calendar on my wall as I often have to count out dates for vessel transit times, Customs deadlines, etc., and it's much easier to do that on a paper calendar.
Nice.

Love his artwork and calendars! Would like to get one myself next year...
My kids give me a calendar every year, always with photos of something I really enjoy. I keep it in the kitchen on the side of the refrigerator and write all of my important dates and appointments on it. This year they gave me an owl calendar. Really beautiful photos of different types of owls in nature - I just love it! :)
DH gave me a calendar of Monet's paintings. It is so beautiful. I've marked birthdays and anniversaries on it and hung it with magnets on the front of the fridge. I also have a calendar on my I pad.
You're most welcome, Libby. :)
Redfox. The Nikki McClure Calendars, are adorable! Going to delve into her work further.
Tradd. I've always had a weakness for calendars. There's just something about wall/paper calendars that soothe the soul. Being able to physically turn the pages (months) is something I will never grow tired of doing. I look forward to each months passing, so I can surprise myself with what lies ahead of the previous months presentation.
Wildflower. Calendars as gifts, you simply can never go wrong.

I find these random hearts everywhere (like the bottom of a soup bowl!), and often photograph them. I love the idea of making them into a calendar.
My favorite calendars of all time were Natural History Museum ones featuring beetles in artfully arranged settings of old maps, papers, and other ephemera. They were only made for a couple of years. I also like illustrators Charley Harper and Kliban, and contemporary quilt art, among others. I use the little pocket-sized Hallmark planners for bill-paying, and I always get wall calendars from friends, realtors, and favorite charities.

Mrs. M., I took a look at the artist and the calenders he puts together, just love his work. It reminds me of the old days painted so beautifully...
Jane. Great list of artists.
Tussiemussies. His work really does have a way of taking one back in time, doesn't it. So soothing.
My calendars are usually of dogs, my favorite one last year of dogs of the blackhat group of the Navajo nation. I gather they didn'tmake enough money, because they don't have one this year. But they are rez (reservation) dogs who got adopted. They did the calendar because lots of people think rez dogs are worthless and wouldn't think of adopting one, but out here (Santa Fe and nearby) white people often go to reservations to adopt (with permission from the reservation people). The dogs are usually malnourished and everything that goes with being a dog whose people have little money, but their health can naturally be improved by the new guardian.
This year, as I have for probably 15 years, I have a Mary Engelbreit calendar.

gail_d, does Mary E. do her magazines any more? I haven't seen one in years, but they were visual treats.
Unfortunately, its last issue was October 2008.
Glad to meet other ME fans here!
