Such a great idea where a mentor will teach you how to DIY. You have to read through the whole article the beginning doesn't discuss it.

Tussiemussies: I think you scared us away with "you have to read through the whole article . . ." but it wasn't that long :)
I think it's a great idea; I had read something else about this too not so long ago.
I think this is a fantastic idea, Tussiemussies.
So many handy people I know (almost all men) say they learned how to do things by watching their dad when they were growing up. Unfortunately, there's just as many if not more kids who don't have a handy parent so they miss that one-on-one learning opportunity. Unless these kids are highly motivated to learn everything themselves, they then have a lifetime of paying someone else to fix it, or throwing stuff away.
I think a Fix It Clinic would work especially well in an economically challenged area. It could train people in some handy-type skills, and maybe they could even make a small living in buying broken items and repairing and re-selling them.
