I have the opportunity to see a movie this week. I have not been to one since The King's Speech.

I am going with someone else. Our choices are The Hobbit/not 3D and Life of Pi. Everyone keeps telling me that only 3D will do justice to the Hobbit film. I already know that Life of Pi is significantly different from the book. I watched the trailer on the film's web site.

This is such a minor concern, not even in the same universe as an actual problem, but I am so conflicted. I think that I am excited because I get to go to the movies!!!!!!!!

Is there anyone who has seen both of them (hopefully read both books, too) and can give me some advice.

Oh...a movie.
Oh...popcorn and red licorice.
Oh...my shoe stuck to the theater floor.
I can hardly wait.

I have seen both but haven't read The Hobbit. I loved the LOTR movies but hated the books, so wasn't going to read The Hobbit, much to my husband's dismay. It had been 10 years since I'd read Life of Pi. Is Pi in 3D? If so that would be my choice. Hobbit is fine, but it's hard not to compare it to LOTR, and it's just not as good IMO. Life of Pi was only the second movie that I thought the 3D was actually worthwhile and added significantly to the movie (after Avatar).

I loved Life of Pi and we did not even see it in 3D.

DH saw both films. I just asked him which he preferred and why. Here's what he said:

"The Hobbit. It had funny little creatures in it and they didn't want to eat you."

I think he's going to be the next Roger Ebert.

Sure does sound like it!

I still cannot decide, but think it might be Life of Pi. Man. Maybe we could see the Hobbits and go out for pie after.

We nicknamed our current foster rescue dog "Richard Parker" after the Tiger in the film because our Richard Parker is obsessed with food and has to be fed all the time.
