View Full Version : Disabling Java for Computer Security
The number one most visited article on today's NPR web site is about how Java could put computers at risk for identity theft. Since I've been a victim of identity theft once, I take these things seriously. Maybe the forum's computer experts could add more or say I'm full of it. Here is one article describing things.

Rogar: Love your picture and I'm sure Spartana will too! DH & I disabled Java today after reading about the threat on the web.
Does this affect smart phones too?
For ease and simple user functionality, I highly recommend, No Script. Can be tailored to meet whatever needs you require.

I uninstalled all versions of Java, hopefully that's good enough.
Only setback to disabling Java, internet searches (some sites) will be hampered, whereas with No Script, the user has full control over visiting any/all sites, with no restrictions/limitations.

Ok I'll see how it works, I may have to do something that forces me back, but I was sick and tired of being prompted to download Java updates every day anyway :). So loving life without Java so far.
The fix for Java has been released. Upgrade and you can stop worrying (about this attack vector).
