I have been watching what I eat for the last few weeks. For just about a week I have used the app on my phone and had a HUGE reality check on my eating habits. I was eating good stuff, and then getting some hug amount of late night calories just out of habit of snacking. I have not been incredibly hungry to cut those out. In addition i have gone to a very healthy natural vegetarian diet with a daily diet coke as my treat. So my body is readjusting and that means for right now I have not budged my weight at all, in fact I went up a few pounds at first.

When i have done the south beach type diet I can drop 5+ lbs quickly and I am spoiled. I am currently watching to stay higher protein and eat complex carbs but I think it is normal for the weight to change much more slowly than the south beach style. I have weighed anywhere from 1-3 lbs less than my highest weight so I am counting on 1 lb real weight loss. 1 lb a week is a good healthy progress, and I am soooo impatient. I understand why people do drastic things!

Hello Zoe Girl, I've heard some say that even diet soft drinks trigger an insulin response that cause calories to be packed away as fat. I can't say that I've looked very far into it, but I'm wary of artificial sweeteners.

I've started to track my weight on my iPod too. I'm still trying to follow my doctor's advice to to follow Dr. Gundry's (http://www.drgundry.com/) plan. He seems a little faddish too, but I'm relying on my doctor's opinion. His plan will work for vegetarians too. I'm getting kind of tired of it after a month, admittedly. I want a cinnamon roll and some pasta primevera!

I dropped about 15 pounds over the first three weeks, but now I can only push it down further if I watch what I'm doing. He allows a couple of snacks of nuts during the day, but if I'm not mindful, I start shoveling them down in the afternoon. I also like to scoop almond butter out of the jar with carrots. If I'm not careful, I can eat a third of a jar of almond butter in the afternoon. When I don't do those things, I see my weight go down, but it's difficult to be that disciplined. I have about thirty pounds to go before I'm at my ideal weight, (according to BMI charts -- that might actually be a little too low for my build). I haven't weighed that much, however, since my teens, many, many years ago.

sigh,,,, I know the diet soda thing. I am just not ready for that at all. i gave up smoking probably August after off and on again years, I really watch the starbucks now as well, sugar is very low in my diet, but that diet soda is my last treat. I have cut down the volume quite a bit, . Overall I have 15-20 lbs to lose total, and I did have a horrible diet before, so I guess I need to accept slowness.
