View Full Version : What a compliment! (Not!!)
I was coming out of the store today adn went to get into my car, when I saw that the van next to mine had a little kid getting out of the side. He didn't see me and almost walked right into me. His mom said to him "Be careful!". As I was getting into the car I heard him say "That was an old man". :0! He wasn't as cute as he was a few seconds before. :~)

Ouch! Wow, what a blow to the ego. You win extra cool points for sharing that with us! Too bad you didn't say, "That's not a very nice thing to say, little girl."

I remember my little ones getting genders mixed up. Don't take it to heart, CathyA.
When I was dating my (not yet) husband's minister, who is a woman with very short hair, my then soon-to-be 3 year old DSS called her That Minister Guy. It was pretty hilarious.
Well....at least he didn't add a few other not so kind adjectives to the description.
I'm so sorry about his eyesight... ;)
LOL.....thanks everyone. In the little guy's defense, I did have a big winter coat on and my hair is white......so I guess I can excuse him this once.
Back in the 1980's, I had my 1-2 year old little daughter with me in the grocery store. The produce guy was trying to be nice, and said to her "Are you having a nice day out with your grandma?"
I said "No, I'm her mother". He spent quite awhile trying to get out of that. And I could hear women behind me snickering, watching him squirm. hahaha
Then, when I was 43, I had a Kohl's salesperson at the check-out ask if I qualified for the senior discount. I said "No, I'm only 43, but I think I should get the discount anyhow, considering what you just asked me." And she gave me the senior discount! haha
I always looked younger than my age until about late 30's, then I started looking older than my age. Now I'm 63 and I think I look around late 70's! Maybe one of these days I'll start looking younger again. !Splat!

I said "No, I'm her mother".ROTFLMAO! Still better than some of the young girls I see, where I question whether or not the girls are older sisters to baby siblings, or babysitting... I'm sure most times they are the moms.
CathyA,your not alone.
Years ago, when I was 30, I belonged to a gym.One morning while on a treadmill I observed as the hot babe who worked the counter received a phone call. The treadmill faced the counter located clear across the other side of the gym. Anyway, the hot babe receives a phone call, scans the whole gym and spots me on the other side. Walks up to me and tells me I have a phone call. I answer the phone. Its my wife asking me to pick up a gallon of milk on the way home.I asked my wife how she described me to the hot babe because I didn't know her name, nor she mine because we had never talked. After a slight hesitation,my wife responded," I described you as the chubby guy with glasses".
Some questions are best unasked.LOL

When my nephew was aboug 4 or 5 he came up to me and poked my rear end and asked me "do you know you have a really big bootie?" No, I've never noticed, thanks sweetie for bringing it to my attention :/
When DS#2 came home from his visiting day at Kindergarten he couldn't stop talking about the boy named Katherine he'd met -- yes, she had very shot hair and wore boy-ish clothes, and yes, she was the daughter of the high school football coach. And since this was a very small town and we knew everyone, I told his mom and we had a good laugh.
My one SIL is sort of masculine. When DS was little he used to call her "uncle".....hahaha I guess alot of us have encountered this with little kids.
Truthfully, it does demonstrate how irrelevant perceived gender is.

One day I was at the beach and these two kids were arguing over whether I was a boy or a girl. Finally they just came up to me and asked. Another time I was at a store--my hair was long and I was carrying a purse and got called sir by a little boy. I've had adults who got confused also. I've been called both sir and m'am by the same person in the same conversation (even on the phone) more than once and one time when I asked a librarian where the bathroom was, he pointed out where both the men's room and the women's room was (they were on opposite sides of the library). Age-wise, someone once assumed that I was my sister's mother, which was odd since usually people assume I'm much younger than I am. And I wasn't nearly old enough to have a daughter my sister's age, who's only two and a half years younger than me.
Oh Geeze Cathy A - not sure if I should laugh or cry :-)! I do think teenagers or young adults think everyone over 30 MUST be 100 (I know I did when I was a teen) so the store clerk was probably a teenager. Little kids also can't seem to determine age - or gender - very well either. I that's probably true when they see women, even very feminine looking women, if they aren't in "gender-specific" clothes like dresses or have short hair. I'm a feminine looking woman (don't go by my avatar photo though :-)!)but once when I was in my work clothes (uniform) with my hair tucked into a ball cap, I heard a little boy say "look Mom, that man is putting on lipstick". Took me a couple of moments to realize I was that lipstick wearing "man" :-)!.
I was 43 when a young adult man in a pizza shop referred to me as the "little old lady with the blue Beetle."
It prompted me to change my hair, start wearing makeup, lose 40 pounds and get out of the sweats.
However, now that I am gray and LOTS older, it would probably just make me laugh.
