Your purse or bag at home? I have an entry way but I am not comfortable leaving my bag by the front door. I also have a laundry room near the garage entrance but no space for putting anything extra in the little room. I designated a shelf in my master closet. My bedroom is on the first floor. Any other ideas. We also have a small closet, but between jackets and my son's stuff for sports/school, not much room. My goal is to find a place for everything in this house, that works.

We have a coat rack by the front door. I usually hang my bag there.

In my bedroom.

Usually behind the chair in the living room. It's also where I tuck my shoes of the day under that same chair.....because the front door space for shoes and back door space for shoes are taken up by men's size 13 & 14.

My grandma always tucked her purse on top of the fridge at home and at anyone's home where she visited. I remember being little and climbing up on a chair to make room for grandma's purse and being excited about her upcoming visit.

For years and years, I kept my purse slung over the backside of one of the kitchen chairs, but with such a large family, the kitchen chair doesn't work anymore, so I now hang it up inside the bedroom closet.

To add, in all the years us kids (four of us) lived at home, mom, kept her purse slung over a kitchen chair, and not once did any one of us kids ever go in it.

Additionally, as a once smoker, I used to keep a spare pack of cigarettes in my purse (more often than not), so if I ran out (kept a pack on the kitchen table), I could reach for my purse. Also, used to write shopping lists out at the kitchen table (still do), so having my purse right there was handy. Write list, deposit into purse, away I'd go!

I don't use a purse unless I'm getting dressed up in a dress and don't have pockets to use. I carry my license, my debit card and my phone in my back pocket. I rarely leave the house with more than that.

on the coat rack by the door. This reminded me of a superstition my daughter told me about last summer when she visited. She saw me place my purse on the floor and she said, "Mom! Don't ever put your purse on the floor. If you do, you'll always be poor!" She picked that one up since moving to TX. Never heard it before.

Kitchen chair a few feet from the back door. Anything that needs to go with me (mail, bible, books, to-do list, etc.) is put on the table next the chair.

Why are you uncomfortable leaving it by the front door? Because of worrying about people coming in and taking it? I hang mine on the doorknob of our entry-way coat closet. Convenient, visible (can't forget it), easy to deposit it there on my way in and pick it up on my way out.

Ok, really bad purse keeper here, but normally I just leave it in the car...I don't bother to pick it up and bring it into the house most days. I do lock the car, though.

On the few occasions where I drag it in, I have a sideboard that is between the living room and kitchen and I drop it there.

I have heard both to have it near a door for quick exit, and also not near a door, so as to thwart an attempt at robbery. I guess you can't have it both ways, lol.

Mine is in my bedroom next to my loveseat (I live w/parents and have a sort of bedroom/sitting room). This way my cellphone is nearby, and credit cards for online shopping (shame on me!)

I have a small basket on the snack bar in my kitchen where I put my small purse, keys, sunglasses, etc...

Like treehugger, I keep mine on a doorknob of a closet in the front hallway.

I used to hang mine on the back of a kitchen chair, but it's too heavy and the chair kept falling over (no wonder my shoulder hurts!) So for the past several years, my favored place has been on the floor beside the kitchen chair. That is kind of a crummy spot if I think about it; I guess I usually don't think about it :)

I have a loveseat in my kitchen instead of a table since I have an island in the kitchen and a table in the dining room. That's where I throw my purse, along with any other items I have to remember to bring with me when I leave the house.

I will not place my purse near a door as once, while I was in the front yard weeding, a person walked in my back door, grabbed my purse and a ring I had taken off from the kitchen counter and when I walked in the back door to go to the bathroom, exited the front door with my stuff.

I hang it on a hook in my closet....but am working to not need it.

decemberlov--do you carry keys? Feminine hygine products? I would so love to not need a purse. Sigh.

we have two spots:

1. in our large walk-in closet right off the front door (which is the second bedroom of the house, technically), where we then put coats, shoes, and bags; or

2. right inside the living room on the right -- just as you get through the 7 ft long entry hall (which is only wide enough for one person at a time. :)

Mine is right by the front door most times. I'm a dumper. As soon as I'm in the door I'm dumping stuff. I usually have more than just a purse, and am often overloaded.

I tuck mine in my laundry storage cupboard near the back door where it is out of sight but accessible for me.

I'm with Tiam - a dumper. As soon as I walk in my apartment door, the tote bag I use during the week for work gets dumped on the floor, right next to the arm chair that's close to the door. I only use a purse on weekends, or when going somewhere. I have a small zippered credit card case/wallet that I move from work bag to purse. If I have to run into the store on the way home from work, I put my work bag in the trunk and just put wallet and cell phone into my coat pockets in the winter. I'm fortunate that my wool swing coat from Land's End actually has an internal chest pocket, very common on men's coats, but rare on women's.

I bought a nice big rack and took care mounting it, but once we put all our bags and coats on it, it fell off.

Still haven't solved this.

If we had a wider entry way, I'd get one of those old-school coat trees you see in old Perry Mason episodes. Not enough room for one though.

We live in a newish apartment building that makes no concession for storage...getting a headache just thinking about it...

Chest pocket -classy! That sounds like a great coat :)

Usually on the floor next to "my" chair. Sometimes I need to get things from it, like when I make phone calls to pay bills, for my credit card, or to put "to do" notes in it for errands. It helps me stay organized.

The other thing is that I organize some outside activities with bags. I have a tote bag with book/notes for my book discussion group. I have a gym bag. A bag with library books. A bag with edible items for "lunches" Etc. These are totes or small backpacks from the thrift shop. It works very well, since each bag looks different and is easy to locate. So, it's not just one bag, but at least 7. >8) Trouble is, I live in a very small condo, and I need to figure out a place to keep all my bags, right now they migrate around. I am thinking of putting them on a bookshelf in my living room if I can declutter/reorganize my books enough. I would love to have a mudroom or entry hall so I could have the shelves there.

I have a hook on the inside of my pantry door in the kitchen. It is out of sight there but convenient to get to. (I have a small purse so this might not work if you have a large or heavy purse.)

I have a chair in my dining room/art room/library and it sits there most of the time. The chair is near the sewing machine. It doesn't become an issue unless I am sitting down there to sew. If that's the case, I just put it on an armchair in the living room which is pretty close by.

Oddly enough, I keep my purse on the bed and when I go to sleep at night, it is right there within reach. I don't do it because I am paranoid of it being stolen or protective of it. I just keep it close because my meds are in it and I need my meds first thing in the morning. So I keep a water bottle by the bed an take my meds first thing in the morning and then go back to sleep for a bit while my meds kick in.

If I'm working the next day, I keep it on the table thingie out in the hall (so I don't make a ton of noise rummaging through it while my partner is still in bed), otherwise, it lives on the floor by the fireplace in my bedroom or on the hook on the back of the bedroom door (for smaller purses).
