My oldest son made it unto the UofM solar car race team. He will be competing in the World Solar Challenge in Australia from October 6-13, racing from Darwin to Adelaide!

I am completely thrilled for him. Such an opportunity and adventure.

I know, Fawn! I had just told my DH that I wished we could be among the parents who could go and cheer them on.

Consider skype so you can virtually cheer them on. (and I am sure you will find more on the web around the time of the event)

Thanks everyone! I WISH we could go but we just don't have the money right now. But maybe next year when they do the American Solar Challenge we can drive along with them LOL NOT quite the same thing lol. But it probably would be fun.

We do have skype. We used it when he was in Germany last summer. Not sure if he'll have the time or ability to Skype during the race. I am hoping that they will offer video streaming or something so we can watch as it goes along.

Oh, and he has another dream now that this one is being fulfilled. He is a huge Lord of the Rings fan so he trying to figure out how to get to New Zealand before he comes home. It is sooo close compared to starting from Michigan. He wants to visit the LOTR sites.

I doubt you will be Skyping him during the race, most of your communications I bet will happen at off times, and your viewing (unless your a vampire) won't be live.

There's always someone who's a buzz kill lol I guess I wasn't very clear there. :D I just really hope there is some way of viewing events as they go along whether live or replay. I would never expect calls during the race portion of the day. I meant in general while camping out in the outback during the race. is there internet in the outback? lol Can't wait to find it all out.
