So, I have 2.5 weeks left until my last day of work in hades...
So I did a little snooping on my stab me in the back subordinate..come to find out, her husband makes the money in the family and they think they are something of a big shot in their little town. I understand she is very rude to everyone from the pedicurist to the grocery clerk to the church people she knows. And she caught her husband cheating but wouldn't be able to survive without him, so she is stuck to him and his money. Makes a lot of sense for the viral behavior she exhibits towards other, especially strong, independent women. I can only say "Bless your heart." but it makes me feel a little less crazy about things.

The other witch hunter, well, same boat except she is married to an organic farmer and hates everything about it. He takes care of the kids and house and she works. According to people at work, he came to a gala event they had and she treated him so badly, people felt horrible for him. She has also stated she will die at her desk and take out anyone who is a threat to her. WOW..I can see clearly now.

So, what is your take on toxic, crazy people like this? I have become very wary and I found a list of questions to bring to an interview to weed them out, because you never know when someone is on their best behavior.

And an update,I contacted a labor lawyer. She thinks I have a good case on two accounts, especially the hostile work environment. And I am sending a letter to their corporate office with names, dates, etc. I will never work for them again and someone needs to blow the whistle on them.

I am not sure you coud totally avoid these folks, however some environments tend to tolerate them better than others. So my super toxic environment hint was that I went to sub at a school and they offered me a job as a PE teacher, the other one left so suddenly but still had a job in the district. Hmm. I am not a PE teacher so I actually could nto take it, but I think I should have tried and avoided what happened when they hired me the next year.

So ask about turnover, how long do people tend to work for the organization/company, how old it is, and then what are their biggest challenges at the time. If they tell the truth on the last one and it sounds reasonable then that is a good sign.

I agree and would only add a follow up question to the biggest challenges inquiry--- "What could a new employee/I do to assist you with this challenge?". Turnover is a HUGE red flag or point for the positive. My new company has very little turnover and people who have left to pursue other interests still drop in to visit. To me, this is an enormous testament to the way in which this company handles "itself" and its employees.

To your point about the labor lawyer, I would suggest caution solely for the reason that your intention (if I am reading your posts correctly) is to move on from this situation. There were reasons I could have pursued a case, but in my situation I did not. I was still owed money by the time I left. However, I chose to look at those commisions as a cost for the lesson learned and just went full steam ahead in a new direction. You are not wrong to get what you deserve, but don't let it keep you down either IMHO.

You can't always see them coming, but when you do find yourself stuck with them...run far, run fast. Life's too short.

I am moving on but there are some ethical and HIPAA violations going on that need to be brought up. These violations are costing the people who do the right thing a lot of money. I have walked away before from toxic jobs but this has been the worst. I just have it waying on my mind. It's too big.

Thank you for being one of the people who takes an ethical stand.

You are welcome. I just can't let this one slide. I found out even more ethical issues this week..having to do with employees having their accounts "written off" and not approved by me..the Director. Can you imagine if that came back to haunt me? I am CYA'ing.

I got canned once as a whistleblower. It sucked, but ultimately, I was glad I took action. I chose to not pursue a legal course, and have never listed the job on my resumé. Human organizations are so messy!

I've also been canned as a whistle blower and it hugely affected my ability to be hired by others. Know why? They didn't want to be held accountable for their behaviors (which may not have been as bad as the behaviors at this job, but many of those behaviors are BAD!). It took me years to hear that what "you aren't a good fit for our studio" and "you lack maturity as a teacher" was really "i don't want you to call me on the fact that I am manipulating and taking advantage of those people in my employ."

Whihc, because I was friends with people in that employ, I did anyway by sharing articles about manipulation triangles and gaslighting, and then they saw it for themselves. Then they left, but new people were there because she "looks really good" and yoga=speak covers a lot of ills.
