View Full Version : Plastic baby bath... or bathtub?
Which did you rely more on in your home when bathing baby?
When they were real small, we used one of those thick foam liners for the bathroom sink. It worked great.
When they got a little older, we used a big plastic tub, set in the bathtub. That way, we only had to fill the plastic tub and not the whole tub.
Plastic tub inside bathtub, until DD was about 2. Saves on water!
The kitchen sink! At least until they were too big for it, Then a little tub set into the bigger tub, until they were too big for that. Then the 'big tub'.

Sink as a teeny-tiny baby... then found this for once kids could sit on their own at Target for $10

A big rubber ducky tub within the tub.
Ducky had 3 incarnations:
- It's intended use of a tub within a tub
- Then once kids outgrew it moved to their bedroom for toy storage
- Final, short-lived stage when son (future x games participant) discovered he could ride it down the stairs :O
....... Ducky had to be put down after that!
Plastic baby bathtub until baby was big enough to be in the regular bathtub. I had tiny petite baby girls, so it was awhile as I remember.....
I still have that plastic baby bathtub after all these years. My babies are now in their 30's. I now put it outside in the summertime, fill it with water, and my little dogs have a grand time splashing around in it. My chihuahua particularly loves it! :)

ROFL!! So funny! I can just picture son and Ducky on their maiden voyage down the stairs!!:laff:
Poor Ducky!

I used the Blue Fisher Price Bathtub in the kitchen sink for all three boys until they were old enough for the regular tub.
I never just used the kitchen sink. I always felt squeamish that the sink was never clean enough and I tended to use harsher chemicals. The baby tub cradled my newborn, then using the other side, my older baby could sit up safely and supported. My oldest on needed the support to sit up a lot longer than most children so it came in handy.

Love reading everyone's entries!
I bathed on the kitchen counter in the beginning, then moved to bathing in the bathroom (counter-top and full-sized tub). Never bathed in the kitchen sink, and never sat the baby bath inside the bathtub (what a super idea)! Pouty lip... why didn't I think of that.
LOL, Mtnlaurel! Bad... bad... baby bath!
P.S. Wildflower. Just thinking about your little doggies splashing around in that old baby bath makes me smile!
BarbieGirl. I was the polar opposite of you, and always felt that the kitchen sink wouldn't be clean enough (after)! LOL! As I remember saying to my mom one day... "how can such an itty-bitty thing make such a big mess"!
We just used a wash cloth and so he was on the floor or bed and we wiped him down and done. He still prefers to bathe that way. Showers are just for playing in his mind. :)

lol, that too, Mrs. M! :laff:
But a other main reason was to save my back! Much easier to bathe baby at counter height.
Zoebird. I LOVE the old-fashioned washcloth method! I used to do overnight/weekend babysitting for this one family, and used to practice wet-washcloth bathing in their home with the two youngest. I'd take-up residence in the bathroom... sitting on the toilet (lid down), then wet-washcloth them down. So quick and easy! Fuss-free, too! So much fun, too, because I'd sing funny little songs to them while I wash-clothed their ears and belly-buttons!

I was very inerested in everyone's replies, since we have a baby due in June! I kind of hate the thought of having a separate plastuc baby bathtub, because we are so short on space, but dd has early, small babies, so I don't really see how to avoid it. Never really thought of using it afterwards for planting, etc. More to think about!
Domestic Goddess. The nice part about a small lightweight plastic baby bath, is it can be hung-up (out of the way) just about anywhere for quick ready use... even stored under baby's crib or kept on a dresser top.
