I have had staff issues all year, considering I really only have 2 staff and a handful of other people who work for me 5 hours a week or less this is sad. I really listened to the feedback I got here on one of my posts and have been working with staff with more meetings. The one person who tends to argue and get us off track has been doing better, and I have tried to stick to the point clearly without extra information that tends to confuse. So we had 3 meetings over the last month to make a behavior plan for children that we all agreed on, such as kids who are sneaking candy will go to a yellow card. We finalized it Monday, walked through every detail, negotiated and clarified, and I printed it out for staff.
Then yesterday i walked into our program and the staff was telling a student a much harsher consequence than what we had agreed upon only the day before. I was able to handle it without further argument by referring to the list (the child was arguing partially because it seemed too extreme but settled when I enforced the correct consequence). So this is great, and I really think it will help our program. I have been trying to get this agreement all year but until the one staff got in serious trouble with me for her attitude it was a stalled effort. Meanwhile I am still concerned that staff forgot a very clear agreement in about 24 hours, sigh. I will continue to type up everything we talk about and I got them small notebooks to carry while working for information that is urgent, and keeping track of that.
As I read about others at work and how much we all have to document everything it seems that maybe this is not because I am a crappy boss, it just is. What a lot of work to just get work done!!
