First, after paying my NZ taxes (we don't earn enough here yet to pay US taxes!), I was able to transfer money to the US and we paid off our credit card (which we'd just put our immigration paperwork on!). Free and clear!
now, we just have to buy something every 6 weeks and pay it off in 30 days (interest free) to keep the credit good. So, yeah.
Second, I was then able to transfer the rest of the money into my US "pay the student loan debt account." LOoking at the money in there, we are 25% to the goal amount to settle the debt! Our hope this year is to continue to throw money at it, and maybe we'll complete it in the next two years! I would not even be 40 yet (i wanna be done by 40!).
I'm proud that my hard work is paying off. Not only have we given ourselves a raise (and live sustainably), and help support our friend (buy her medicine and some food for her family), as well as run the business well, but we are now in the phase of paying ourselves back and paying off debt! I'm so stupidly happy.
Happy, I tell you!
Also, my friend just paid her last student loan payment in Feb, and had her celebration party today at the beach. Isn't that awesome? She just wants to finish the credit card bill, and then she and her husband are going to save for a house. They also decided to downsize to a smaller cottage (like ours) to save more money. Simple living/frugality is apparently contagious. She said i was talking about my financial goals so much, she decided to get on it!
